I think this only happens either with teas I've familiarized myself with, like Taiwanese Oolong or Wuyi Yancha, or teas that I brew with the utmost of precision (busting out my thermometer, scale, etc.) like Japanese green teas. Things that usually break my "TeaZone" include distractions, and my own absentminded nature. I'll brew a tea for 30 seconds, and realize that I forgot about it 30 minutes later.

Re: Monday TeaDay 7/03/09 TeaZone Brewer?
"Brew no wrong" just became one of my favorite expressions. Kudos to whoever came up with it, I'm guessing it was Chip?
I think I sometimes find myself unable to brew wrong.

Re: Monday TeaDay 7/03/09 TeaZone Brewer?
Hm, it happens. Most definitely the few times I've so totally nailed the brewing parameters it nearly made me cry, which I wrote about some time ago.
More recently, and not so dramatically perhaps, I did above average with some oolong or other, despite it being the first time with that particular tea. Good thing I wrote down what I did, as I did it.
Then again I have overbrewed crap tea in the past so many times I came to like it that way and usually left the leaves to steep for 15 mins or so.
Oh yeah, I had a particularly good session with Halmari Golden yesterday...I may have to review my opinion of it.
Today: Golden Nepal for breakfast after which I've been rushing around town all day...tried to get a 3rd steep out of it on coming home(and being desperate for a decent cuppa) but it had already 'died'.
Mystery oolong and some reading on the balcony. Matcha mixed in my ice cream so now I'm a bit...I dunno. Seems to really get my circulation going, especially in my hands & feet.

Re: Monday TeaDay 7/03/09 TeaZone Brewer?
At the risk of sounding boastful, which I am not as I credit my success not on my tea brewing skillz, but to living in a perpetual TeaZone along with a few other contributing factors the likes of which will be touched upon by future TeaDay TeaZone episodes.
So, I said "brew no wrong, usually in the TeaZone."
I actually grew tired of saying "great TeaDay" day after day, week after week, month after month, that I tried to brew a bad cup, couldn't do it. My existance within the boundries of the TeaZone would not permit such a faux pas, would not allow a MisBrew. (OK, just don't ask me to brew Dan Cong oolong
)
Began this great TD with brilliantly brewed Yutaka Midori from O-Cha.
Then a great session of Takumi from Zencha, followed by a great steeping of FF Darjeeling with DW.
Hoping your TeaDays are equally GREAT!

Re: Monday TeaDay 7/03/09 TeaZone Brewer?
I prefer to surprise myself when things go right. It makes me happy when the brew is awesome, but it is not as disappointing when it is not too great.
At the moment my cup is filled with steep #3 of a very small leafed, no name sencha that my father brought back with him from Japan. It looks like a fuka though I am guessing it is more in line with a mecha as none of the leaves are whole, but they are in pieces big enough to not go through the screen of my kyusu. It is tasty though not incredible.

Re: Monday TeaDay 7/03/09 TeaZone Brewer?
how do y'all
well once in the zone i always seem to construct a new hurdle or some sort of obstacle right away so that when i reach the in-zone again its always better and then i set up another .
i have been roasting / refreshing my oolongs just before brew and well what a thing to duplicate. but i must say virtually never is it a bad brew.
i have always said there is no bad leaf it can be fixed you just have to figure out how to fix it.
home grown chamomile tea just cut and dried. oooohhh so good

Hi All,
I said "yes, definitely"...especially when I am cycling teas that I've figured out!
Intuit, you are too funny!!! We must be careful of those two headed candles...they can "burn" us "two" easily!
This morning I enjoyed Nilgiri early. (My new morning system has me brewing a pot of tea. I have a cup with breakfast and take the rest in a briefcase bullet to share with my tea buddy at work. I brew the 2nd and 3rd steeps before I leave home and put them in the frig for cold tea later.) My tea buddy made "red and white" from a tea bag; it is pretty good with some half-and-half and stevia...tastes yummy like dessert. This evening we enjoyed the cold tea and now I'm finishing up the nth steep of YM sincha.
Hope everyone's week is off to a great start,
Dreamer
