Re: Sunday TeaDay 8/16/09 FreeDay TeaDay!
At least your dream involved delicious food...I dreamt that I bought a nice (read: expensive) Zhuni teapot, only to find out that it's a fake! That's what I get for researching my next purchase
Re: Sunday TeaDay 8/16/09 FreeDay TeaDay!
So many fine postings.
Went to a kinesiologist last week (those healers that do muscle strength testing in response to all the various foods/food groups, among other things) and was informed (much to my deep, shuddering chagrin) that my body was weakened in response to green tea, black tea, and pu-erh tea.
So, I am drinking tisanes/herbals. My fav is my own concoction of organic chamomile, organic lavender, and organic calendula (I'll make it both with and without the calendula, depending).
And, I have to admit, I went to the local market, and purchased a couple of herbals from celestial. Sigh. But tasty and warm!
I tried the local Teavana - but geez, all their herbals were filled with dried fruit (so lots of sugar), except for two (plain cham, and another one, 'tranquil dream'). Lots of 'hit you in the mouth with a baseball bat fare'.
BUT, this morning, in honor of FreeDay/TeaDay, I snuck a bowl of matcha in my new Jayzo red. After drinking the matcha, I have to admit, I feel fuzzy-headed, foggy-minded, and a little down. Sigh. It's amazing what one discovers/becomes aware of when detoxing/cleansing/healing and the body becomes clear enough to register previously subtle responses to foods/drinks ingested. (The other day, I thought, 'he didn't test me for or say anything about whites!', so I had some White Peony Longevity Brows; similar response as to this morning's matcha, only without the down-ness).
I hope this tea sensitivity is temporary!!!
And then there's the handy-dandy Tao Te Ching (Mitchell translation), and I just now randomly opened to:
If you realize that all things change,
there is nothing you will try to hold onto.
If you aren't afraid of dying,
there is nothing you can't achieve.
Trying to control the future
is like trying to take the master carpenter's place.
When you handle the master carpenter's tools,
chances are that you'll cut your hand.
I think my best path is one of humility.
It is my hope that tea will again grant me the gift of her warm embrace.
Until then, I will listen to the master carpenter as best I can.
Any others have experience with becoming sensitive to tea, taking a break from it, and then finding yourself back at peace with it?

Good luck with that Seeker!!!
When I had major stomach issues, I was a tea drinker. But I drank a lot of blacks. At the time, all the recommendations were to stop drinking tea and anything with caffeine such as my fave food group, chocolate.
I read a lot and determined to drink green tea, eat chocolate, cut out peppermint, and still eat pretty much whatever I wanted. Amazingly, the green tea versus black really seemed to do the trick for me.
Not that I am recommending you follow my advise, but I had almost lost hope at the time. Hopefully you will be drinking tea soon.
Silver Needles Organic from Rishi while away today. This is a very nice selection.
Currently Yutaka Midori from O-Cha with DW.
A great TeaDay despite the heat wave here.

FreeDay TeaDay is a good idea. But meanwhile I am sure Chip has a bunch of great poll ideas in stock, and just wants to be thrifty
I had a great tea day, with 2 oolong sessions at home (with my travel set, a plate and sauce pan for boiling water), and some nice golden monkey in All Things Tea, the teahouse on Bloor St. of Toronto. People there are very nice, and they have many (maybe hundreds of) teas in front of you for you to order, for very affordable prices
Between tea sessions, I stuffed myself with all kinds of international food, and biked for >20 miles in some nice neighbourhood of Toronto

Would it be worth having a generic "What are you drinking today?" Teaday topic, maybe green, black, oolong, etc choices, which could be trotted out several times a day without wearing thin never mind a few times a each week or month.
Drinking some Assam and glad I'm not outside as the weather has taken a bit of a turn for the worse today, it's good comfort tea.

That is a really good idea! It would be nice to just hear what different types of teas that people are enjoying, like a day of oolongs with some reviews and recommendations. The topic could be as simple as "Have you had any good oolongs lately(or greens, blacks, puerhs, whites, etc based on the day)? If so, tell us something about them." People could just have a day of recommending teas (more than we already generally do), with maybe a short mini review and pictures are always welcome.Proinsias wrote:Would it be worth having a generic "What are you drinking today?" Free TeaDay also works for me. Chip does enough work just putting up with all of us and deserves a break every so often. It is always entertaining to hear people's random thoughts and learn more about everyone on the free days.
Just to keep to the randomness of the topic, if anyone loves a good science fiction movie, go see District 9. It was absolutely fantastic and the political context, though subtle, made the movie very enjoyable on top of the many explosions and great action sequences.
Currently in my cup is a cold brewed sencha blend.

There's a tea-loving midwife in Kentucky
Who thinks working on Sundays is sucky;
She was at the hospital for too long,
But she's home now, sipping oolong,
And she'll sleep through the night
If she's lucky!
Of course Chip deserves a break. How else will Mrs. Chip get him to do any household chores?

BTW, thanks everyone for the suggestions and encouraging words.
Soggy Leaf Tea at the moment. Silver Needles, around the 7th or so steeping. Still flavorful, but not particularly rounded.

How about this:
Would you be willing to give up tea for any reason other than medical problems?
For example, as part of a fast, a diet plan, a bet, for money?
If so, for how long?
