Teaware shopping - Toronto Dundas St.

by TomVerlain » Sep 27th, '09, 13:04

I was in Toronto this past week and had a chance to go to Chinatown to look around a bit. Much like Chinatowns all over, there are lots of interchangeable shops & resturants, and a few gems hidden in their midst.

Ten Ren, which started in Taiwan, has US stores as well. I have to admit my first taste of pu'er was at a ten ren, and it was very good. It was a loose leaf tea sold by the Kilo, and I got the second grade, which was about $200 US a kilo. This shop in toronto is similar to those around the world. Lots of stylish teapots in various sizes, in various clays. Though I did not buy anything, the glass teapots look pretty nice for $15 CA.

I found a very nice shop selling ceramics on Dundas street as well. Really spectacular looking stuff. I enjoyed some 15 year old pu'er with the owner Roger Liu. Though teaware aquisition syndrome had me in a hammer lock, but I did not manage to buy anything. The photo of the cricket bowl does not do it justice. You can kind of see how thin it is. The yellow bowls are also something I really liked, but more on the "if I win the lottery" list.
