There are a few Victorian tea rooms around Boston, but none of them serve interesting teas and they are all too frilly for me.
There are a few place that serve high tea and low tea. I've been to one of them for low tea, Swan's Cafe at the Park Plaza, and it was wonderful -- Cynthia Gold brews her teas perfectly! However, at $40 per person I'll save low tea for special occasions.
Finally had a few cups of Hibiki-an's tencha in mid-afternoon, and I'm finishing some Hibiki-an premium sencha after supper.
Re: Sunday TeaRoom 10/04/09 TeaRoom visit?
Yes, I was to an English style tea room (and bakery) for my Mom's birthday with her and my Grandma about two years ago.
While that style of tea normally does not appeal to me I still had a very enjoyable time celebrating the birthday occasion. The tea was decent, the food was good, the atmosphere wasn't all that bad....I would say it was overall a good experience, and I would even go back but not very often. Maybe once more with family.
The most scary part was the fact that we shared high tea with a group from the Red Hat Society
. As others have said the whole overly frilly thing can be too much, but I got passed that and still found a way to enjoy the experience.

A quiet day on the forum. But a great TD for everyone I hope.
A thick brewed Sae Midori from O-Cha was followed by Fuga Limited Edition from Zencha with DW. Both teas were great!

A friend who has been indulgent towards my mania for tea suggested that we go for tea in Toronto at the (newly renovated) Royal Ontario Museum. The space was really interesting and the food was pretty and tasty but alas the tea was just ok (Mighty Leaf, so the 'good' bagged tea). But that was ok, because everything else was so nice (friend included).
Now that I'm around Boston again, I'm thinking that I'd like to go to the Kaji Aso studio some Sunday for the tea ceremony. I have yet to venture into the world of Japanese greens...

I definitely recommend. The director there, Kate Finnegan, does a beautiful job. She gives it the proper amount of depth and seriousness, but acknowledges that this is a new experience for most people. She is able to guide you through, so you learn and enjoy the experience fully.tea fish wrote:Now that I'm around Boston again, I'm thinking that I'd like to go to the Kaji Aso studio some Sunday for the tea ceremony. Just peeking back into TeaChat.
Funny that I hit this topic. I just spent the last month checking out tea rooms all over New England. I think in the month of September I visited twelve tea rooms/ cafes. A crazy adventure to be sure. I had some fantastic experiences and some dismal ones.
Good to "see" everyone. I'm going to jump back to the forums and see all that I've been missing!

Thanks for the recommendation--I'm really looking forward to the visit now (once work lets up a bit).Katrina wrote:I definitely recommend. The director there, Kate Finnegan, does a beautiful job.
