I like the oolongs that will usually have ''flavor explosions'' (where the taste is not subtle). ''darker''. For instance, one of my favorite is FTL Taiwan wuyi. That tea is just so great. Taste is strong, sweet, a bit fruity etc. I usually like light rosted oolongs but its not an obligation. I like any kind (high mountian, etc) but i definatly wants something thats going to make me feel good after a long time outside (its getting pretty cold).
Anybody has any suggestion about finding those kind of teas?
Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
Well you have both ends of the spectrum there it sounds like to me.
My thoughts for dark would be a Gaba tea or Just4Tea's Tie Guan Yin.
As for light, if you are looking for rubust, still TGY may be the ticket.
I'm having some Iron Goddess King right now that is green, and has a very thick and full bodied feel.

Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
yeah what i meant is it can be roasted or not, but it has to taste ALOT. not being so subtle.
I will check your recommendations. Thanks victoria

Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
Hou De's classical wood roasted dong dings are great! That's exactly what you're looking for, I think. Their golden pearls dancong also rocks as a blackish dancong tea.
Moreover, it sounds like you want the more oolongish dark black teas. Not necessarily darjeelings, but something along the lines of Hou De's taiwanese black teas or Teaspring's Zhu Hai Jing Ming. An elite less malty assam/yunnan will also do in a pinch.

Check out Sundial Herb Garden
http://www.sundialgardens.com/
Scroll down the list of oolongs until you get to Imperial Velvet, this one blows me away!
In a few days I will have some oolong from Houde and I'll post my impressions, it's this one.

Seconded, and I feel that heavier roast teas traditionally have more flavor, the question just is whether you like the flavor.Victoria wrote:Well you have both ends of the spectrum there it sounds like to me.

But I feel out of place posting this as summer is ending, but a Strongly brewed then iced Green TGY is a favorite summer drink for me. And it certainly has a great punch of flavor.
Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
They've been getting a lot of attention on the board lately, but I thought to pipe up anyway to say that seven cups has some seriously tasty wuyis. You might want to check them out, not least because their sale is ON (up to 50% off some teas). The Premium Rou Gui 2009 is mighty strong--I just tried it today, whoa. Same with the Tie Luo Han 2007 and the reliably sweet Shui Xian.
Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
I would give a thumbs down for Gaba. It is dark but in a very different way. Also, it tastes awful.
Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
there are different tastes from 'gaba' teas
They don't all taste the exact same just because it is 'gaba' , that is not a word that is supposed to be associated with just one particular taste because the levels of gaba vary from tea plant to tea plant and so does the shading period and processing (even though nitrogen is always used)
Taiwanese Japanese vs Taiwanese gaba teas taste different to me, at least the few that I have tried back in taiwan
Ed maybe it is an acquired taste though, or an issue with food pairing, because I remember liking all of them a while while back

Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
I ate at a Taiwanese vegetarian restaurant the other night. I tried their GABA brown rice. I couldn't see or taste anything unusual. In fact, I prefer the Thai Jasmine brown rice, organic, of course! They did have some very good TGY, greener type, loose leaf, packed into a teapot. My other guests commented that the tea was the best they've ever had in a restaurant.
Re: Anybody has suggestions for me?
I really like Upton Tea's Amber Oolong Select, TT57. It is much better, in my opinion, than Upton's lower-grade amber oolong (TT55).
It is definitely not subtle. Very aromatic, and with lots of different things going on in the aroma. It is also very full-bodied and has a very bold flavor, and some pleasant bitterness.
