In no special order, veggie, grassy, umami. Not far behind, floral, fruity, sweetness. It is pretty exciting picking up an unexpected nuance in a tea.
Began the TD with Hatsumi from O-Cha. Next up was Yame Fukamushi from Den's. A great TD so far.

Re: Monday TeaDay 10/26/09 Which flavors ... ?
I'm all about the toasty, nutty, sweetness. I'm also partial to fruity and (mildly!) smokey teas. Roasted oolongs it is, then.
After an afternoon spent drinking Oolong #8, I'm taking an apple cider break.

Ohh apple cider sounds good. Just hard to find here.leiche2 wrote:I'm all about the toasty, nutty, sweetness. I'm also partial to fruity and (mildly!) smokey teas. Roasted oolongs it is, then.

For me this afternoon; wuyi oolong.

Heh, thanks for checking!Chip wrote:Last year, the forum only permitted one vote, you voted grassy!Drax wrote:Hrm, I went with vegetal, grassy, and nutty. It's hard to pick just three. I wonder what I voted for last year...?
I'd also ask where 'earthy' is, but I guess you can't change the options from the previous year so as not to skew a comparison? *sniff*It was interesting reading last year's to see where people were at the time, and hope this year will reveal where they are today.
Drat, missed earthy. While the old format permitted additions to the options at any time, the new format clears all the votes if a new option is added. Sorry "Pu heads!"

So... 'marine' -- is that a way of saying 'salty' or does it imply something else? I'm not sure I've ever had a tea like that...

I'm loving reading all the answers today!
Grassy, sweetness, and fruity. I would have added floral had I had a 4th pick, but really that is more an aroma that I like than a flavor.
Marine...yuck...the first time I brewed gyokuro I followed some generic directions and it was way overbrewed and tasted like warm water poured over fish guts...it was horrible. Only later did I come to find out that some seek out that flavor
So if tomorrow's poll is "which flavors do you avoid?", I've already tipped my hand!
Today's tea...Ceylon Vithanakande this morning and a lovely sweet grassy bowl of matcha this afternoon.
Happy sipping,

Must be my instincts kicking in, had a sudden urge to roast some grains for cooler evenings that are approaching. So roasted a few types of rice, a few different barleys (of course), buckwheat, corn ... and blended some together.
First brew is very nice and sweet and ... oh noes, toasty and nutty, I did not even mention these two flavors in the poll/discussion today. But this is realllly nice. Served up in a ChicagoPotter cup.
After a few steeps, I will eat it too.

The most pleasant `marine' tea aromas that I have experienced have been the clean, fresh scents of nori seaweed and bay scallops. The worst marine scents can smell like Wollaston Beach at low tide. Somewhere in between is the scent of Teavana's gyokuro.Drax wrote:So... 'marine' -- is that a way of saying 'salty' or does it imply something else? I'm not sure I've ever had a tea like that...

Ok I guess I really like earthy flavored teas overall. However, I do enjoy other fruity and sweet teas. I did however vote for the grassy for overall favorite.

I went with Marine, Toasty, and Vegetal.
Like most pu fans that posted on this topic, I would have chosen Earthy were it available, as that is my true fave.
Second tier would probably be Nutty, Smokey, and Umamai.
I don't often look for sweetness in tea.
