Hi CynTea.
Did you get to taste any Hawaiian teas? Do things look promising there?

Re: Friday TeaDay 10/30/09 Tea of the month?
This past month has been really rainy and when it rains I LOVE to drink green tea. I've been drinking a lot of genmai cha and dragonwell. I know it's an oolong, but I've also had Jasmine #12 quite a few times this month. Green teas have always been my favorite.

... Sencha Premier from Adagio earlier.
And currently sipping Kabuse from O-Cha, another leftover sample from a tasting I conducted around a year ago. I decided I wanted to "age" it. Now I cannot remember how it was when it was real fresh. But it is still very good a year later.

The prize this month goes to "2009 Spring BaoZhong PingLin Competition Honorable Mention" from Floating Leaves Tea. I'm completely ga ga about this tea. Very green, large intact leaves, beautiful floral/ sweet flavour. I've been wanting to try a Baozhong for a long time and I'm very pleased I finally did.

Tea of the month was definitely Black, though as to which one it was is definitely a toss up. I have enough Organic Monk's Blend for breakfast tomorrow, but after that, my half pound is all gone from enjoying it all month. The main tea to completely knock my socks off was the Castleton from the Lochan Tea Sampler. That one was so awesome.
Currently in my cup is the end of my stash of last year's Chestnut tea mixed with a touch of orange blossom oolong since I didn't have quite enough leaf to make a full cup. It is an interesting combination. I am still not quite sure how I decided that orange and chestnut was a good idea. It is drinkable, but not much more than that.

I had to answer "black"...I have really enjoyed the Neela from Tao of Tea. It is really such a delightfully different tea for me! It has to be my favorite for the month. I've been following Victoria's story about her attempt to get more of this tea and hope that I can get more at some point.
Mmmm, tea,

Last tea of the day was a white pear which sounded good, but unfortunately wasn't.
I got into cleaning out my tea stash today and threw away about 1 & 1/2
grocery bags full, if you can believe that. Most of it is close to 2 years old or older. Many things which I tried when I first got into tea and wanted to try everything. I am clearing out my kitchen island and I will have 2 pull out wire bins for oolong, 1 for black and 1 for greens & whites. It will feel really good when I get it all done. I still have way too much tea, but I feel better now and as I try one and it's not all that great, I'll toss it. When I get the oolongs down to just one drawer, I'll be even happier.

I have some of that in my cabinet. I thought it was quite good for a unroasted TGY. Enough quality to pass the headache test.Victoria wrote:The Tea of the Month for me was a discovered bag of Iron Goddess King Oolong from New Century Tea Gallery.
This morning another new adventure into the Lochan Tasting Samples - Margaret's Hope Muscatel 2nd Flush Darjeeling. Pretty good for a 2nd flush.

Definitely Pu, and mostly Menghai shu.
• Yun Zhi Beeng Zhai Zi Po Pu-erh Cake 2007 (Sheng)
• 2008 Menghai Tea Factory 7592 Recipe (Shu)
• 2008 Menghai V93 Premium Ripe Pu-erh tea 100g tuos (Shu)
Mostly drinking the little tuos. I like them very much.

My fave tea of Oct was Pu-Erh as well, particularly early 1980s 7581 shu (cooked). It was smooth, very rich, and with a hint of sheng (like American Ginseng) aroma and taste.
