I know this seems like a silly question. But I don't have a thermometer right now.
What I have done until now is watch the water as it heats up. And when the tiny tiny bubbles begin to form I use the water immediately to brew the green tea.
Does that seem about right? Or is that too hot or not hot enough?

I think that's pretty close to 170F, when bubbles just start to form.cinni wrote:I know this seems like a silly question. But I don't have a thermometer right now.

Okay. I just heated water on the stove top in my old tea kettle and the first bubbles started to form at 180F.

Or you could just let the water get to a full boil, then pour into cups, let it cool like that, or cool it even more by transfering from cup to cup
Then test by pouring a little on your hand or finger. If it scalds then its too hot, if its bearable its around 170-180 for my fingers. That's what I do when I don't have access to a thermometer and it has always worked for me.
Please don't pour a bunch of boiling water on your hand.

HA, you should probably include a disclaimor in that post.churng wrote:Or you could just let the water get to a full boil, then pour into cups, let it cool like that, or cool it even more by transfering from cup to cup
