180ml yixing too big for puerh for one person?

Hi there:

Wanted to buy a yixing pot for using with puerh for drinking alone and ended up buying this one: http://bit.ly/2A7LO9

It's 180ml and after reading around, am now wondering if this is a little too big?

Any clues appreciated.

Not too big. Depends on how much tea you like to drink. You have your choice of a big cup or using less leaf and filling accordingly. Sometimes I want to sit down with 120-150ml of tea and at other times, small cups.

Thanks for the replies.

The reality is that I'm a novice when it comes to tea, but am on a mission to learn about and enjoy Japanese greens, Taiwanese oolongs as well Chinese puerhs.

I have a kyusu for my senchas and have ordered a couple of pots for the oolongs and the puerh.

The reality is that I initially won't be drinking expensive teas and rather, am looking for a setup for day-to-day informal drinking of tea, oftentimes whilst I'm working at the computer, as sacrilegious as that may seem.

My kyusu seems relatively huge at 360ml but I typically brew 250ml at a time and so does not seem to big for me.

That pot while attractive, I have to second eds notion of burnt fingers, as when pouring to keep the lid on and prevent it from falling and possibly chipping it is common to put a finger on the lid.

Combined with the usual practice of pouring water from the kettle over the pot during the making of the tea. (Sometimes before and after or sometimes just after). Often time the nobs on top of the pot are hot enough, without the nob, I'm wondering how they counteract the heat issue.

I'd like to hear from people that have pots like this, and how they got around that?

One possibility I'm thinking of is using it for longer steepings of green tea, so it has sufficient time to cool.

Never had a pot like that but I'm thinking a two hand pour with fingers dancing on the lid.

This is probably just me But, You can't have too many pots.
I don't know how many pots I have, It's a lot.
Think of them as works of art. Put them on display.
I suggest buying two more so when you burn your fingers, drop & break this one You will have two to take its place. ImageThink Christmas.

There're some hardcore tea drinkers using large yixing pot (250mL) and fill it only up to half or certain height. These large pots provide degree of freedom for fast pouring but control of brew temperature will be quite difficult IMHO. Most of my pots lies in betwen 120-170mL and I find them great. So the decision is really up to you.

I don't have a pot like that, but I have a certain strategy for preventing burnt fingers with yixings: I use two hand pour and press the lid with my fingernail. Often the vent hole is on the knob and the knob gets really hot so this fingernail strategy helps in that. Works better for us ladies who often have longer fingernails than men :D
