Green Tea from 1973

by Chatsworth » Dec 5th, '09, 11:27

Just discovered a can of Green Tea. It was a gift from a Japanese graduate student visiting in 1973. It is wrapped in a paper bag inside a metal cylinder that has a lid and an additional lid over it.

The tea looks normal, but I have read that they don't keep well.

Guess I'll have to brew some, I just am not that familiar with green teas yet to judge.

It appears to be large or complete pieces of a whole leaf.

I would not bother brewing, personally. Sounds like at best it was bancha anyway.

I would like to see the canister it is in however, any chance of seeing a few photos?

Awww, what a sad story. Had it been any other type of tea, it might have been spectacular!

Who knows, though, could always be worth a shot...?

The owners of Jing Tea Shop posted tasting notes of a similar tea; a sample sized green poorly stored for 15 years, and it looks quite interesting.

With that in mind, why hesitate?
