On the topic of the IngenuiTEA

by quantumturkey » Jan 4th, '07, 19:16

I have seen recomendations that you use only one sort of tea with the IngenuiTEA. Is this really critical? Does the plastic or the infuser really hold over that many oils beyond a good washing? Would a soak in some harsher cleaning agents free these potential trapped oils and flavorings? (with a thorough hot rinse afterwards of course)

I use mine for all types of tea...black, green, white, oolong, herbals, pu-erh. I'm not about to buy a different pot for each type.

until the demise of my ingenuiTea v1.0 i brewed all kinds in there. i just rinsed it with water after brewing and occasionally ran it through the dishwasher when it got stained/funky. it was my at work pot, so i wasn't going to have a collection of pots up there.

although i did eventually use the paper filters they sell for rooibos and chamomile because i got tired of fighting the little bits of each trying to clean my filter. though the new version has a removable filter, so that may not be an issue for you.

I agree with the other posters, the ingenuitea can be used with all types of tea, and you should not buy a separate ingenuitea for every type.

I typically wash mine after every 3-5 infusions ( I typically drink green tea). I handwash mine in the sink and every couple of months I give in a dish washing. If I drink a black or pu-erh, I will always hand wash it afterwards because those flavors tend to overpower my greens if I don't.

The ingenuitea is fine with all types of tea.
