banko kyusu

i've just got my first banko kyusu yesterday.its an 80$ expensive one .after one use it began to loose paint under the lid where the lid meet the teapot surface and uncoverd a gray surface beneath....how it can be?... is my banko is a real clay or its only painted in brown paint like a banko clay? i'm very dissapointed.is someone had this experience before?

That's not paint, Kuki. After a pot is fired, a lot of times the potter will sand down the lid for a better fit. That's all that is. A lot of my pots have it too.

I can't tell what you are talking about. I see a discoloration inside the teapot but that looks like tea stain.

Keep in mind, that the clay surfase color changes with the firing, underneath is usually lighter color. Kyusu generally have a perfect fitting lid after this sanding, thus when you are pouring, if you cover the hole, the flow will virtually stop completely.

So, yeah, everything is fine!

Yuuki-cha is a trusted seller, I don't think you should worry, as everyone above says. You can even see this same gray in the close-up of the sasame filter on their page.

You'll note that before firing, the clay is a cream color.

yesterday i contacted Yuuki-cha for an Explanation,and that was there Answer:
"This teapot is made by Kuniaki Mori. He is a government awarded Banko Yaki potter. He uses natural clay. There is no paint or glaze on this teapot at all. The gray you are talking about is most likely to be were it has been filed so that the lid fits perfectly. This will cause the underneath clay to show through which sometimes appears gray. You can find the same thing on many Japanese teapots.Here you can see the gray on another Banko teapot:"and this is the attached picture.
