Matcha: Different Whisk Sizes?

by brad4419 » Jan 1st, '10, 21:48

Are there different sized whisks available? Im curious because I have a wide teacup thats about 2.75in high and 4in wide that I want to use as a chawan. I see chawan for sale around that are about these diminsions so Im guessing they have whisks that will work but Im not familier with them at all.

Thanks for the link Ed, the little 100ct whisk looks like the right size. Have you bought from this place before or did you find it in a search?

maybe I will throw on some tea and give it a try

I've never ordered, but, as Victoria says, they have a good reputation around here.

Never ordered chasen from them, but have gotten tea and teawares from them, I would certainly trust them.

I met many of them at the World Tea Expo, great folks.

Thanks everyone. Im going to order the chasen soon and maybe give there tea a try as well.

I e-mailed them and received a quick response saying

"100ct tea whisk is 100% bamboo, and its largest width -the tip- is 2.4 inches.

If your chawan is very small, we recommend the ‘sambo’ tea whisk http://www.hankooktea.com/chasen-tea-whisk-sambo.html which is 1.5 inches at is tip.
Sambo tea whisk is also 100% bamboo (black bamboo) product. "

The Small Sambo sounds perfect for my small teacup/chawan. Very nice looking too :)
