Lin's tells me that kettle J-1 and J-3 can be used on induction and charcoal. Can someone confirm that this is true?
Also, does anyone have any ideas for alternative charcoal stoves. What might be a good way to use charcoal without buying an expensive stove. I'm planning on leaving a stove in the yard and I'm not very gentle with pottery outdoors. I guess a brick column would work well...anyone ever tried anything?

If you don't want to buy a specialized charcoal stove for your tea kettle, you could try a small Japanese charcoal stove / grill (usually square, but sometimes circular). These are available fairly cheaply.

check out these stoves from malaysia...is there anywhere in the US to find stoves like this? I've seen the shichirins, but where do you find authentic stoves like these? other than lin's...more affordable ones.

Re: Charcoal Stoves !?
Unfortunately this kind of stove is kind of very cheap local commodity. Thus rarely anyone exports it since the shipping price will be several times higher than the stove's price itself.
If you have some friends who live in malaysia, singapore or HK, maybe they might be able to find it for you.
