Started the day off with Uji Sencha, which was not nearly enough to awaken me, but got a big burst of energy when my new Hokujo teapot arrived in the mail
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 1/26/10 Aroma satisfaction?
Absolutely yes! I think my sense of smell is much more developed than my sense of taste, hence I always smell things (including dry leaves, wet leaves, liquor, gaiwan lid, etc!) Hmm... must be a compensating factor...

Yea I do smell the tea after opening. As far as smelling brewed tea I really only do this when I brew gongfu.
<rant>
UPS is fail....my tea that was supposed to come in today got pushed back to tomorrow and now I just got an update that it got routed wrong so they added another day to the delivery. *sigh*

Oh yea, I love the smell of dry leaves, especially fresh from a newly opened bag. As for the bonus question I will normally smell the leaf again before brewing and then after the brew. I guess this could be because my favorite teas are oolongs and second is Chinese greens, how can I resist the sniff with stuff so yummy.

So sorry, AM! Well, you seem to have a bright outlook, so keep brewing and do drop in often!artmom wrote:Doctor was pleased with lab work; however, based on tests run while I was in the hospital with the pneumonia, it is Congestive Heart Failure not the pneumonia that caused the oxygen deprivation. I'll just keep on truckin' on, enjoying this forum and my tea.
Try more leaf?!?teashionista wrote:Started the day off with Uji Sencha, which was not nearly enough to awaken me, but got a big burst of energy when my new Hokujo teapot arrived in the mail
TD continued with a tasting of Zencha's Fuga LE with DW ...
Too late for another tea, so it is home roasted mugi/genmai for the chilly evening.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 1/26/10 Aroma satisfaction?
And so it was foretold in previous recent TeaDay polls that there would come to pass on this day a newly born poll question of the worldy pleasures of dry tealeaf aroma. As it was foretold and anticipated, I chose my morning tea accordingly, so as to comment specifically to the aroma of the leaf, and more particularly to that of the Warm Leaf. Yutaka Midori... even as the bloom is starting to fade, the warm leaf has a fragrance that is indescribably pleasing.
I answered Absolutely Yes to the poll because I've always been a tea sniffer... even Luzianne teabags. It is part of my practice of every brew... to first enjoy the scent of the dry leaf. And thanks to Chip awaking my senses to the aroma of warmed leaf... I now routinely do this as well, especially with any Japanese greens.
I am having infusion 4 or 5 of my morning's Yutaka Midori... and looking forward to morning, so I can warm my kyusu, add my leaf, cover, wait, and then uncover and inhale deeply. Ahhhhhh.

YM was the first tea that I had ever done this in the preheated kyusu. It is enough to make you sit down even on a very busy morning ... and just remember to focus on a great tea!
Enjoyed everyone's comments as always!!!
