Hi I am looking for a Tetsubin cast iron teapot that can be used on a stovetop. I don't want one that in unlined inside is that an option or do I just have to go with a stainless one.
I want one just like this but I don't care if it is blue just plain old black is fine. The color doesn't matter I just want this flatter design or something similar. it only has to hold enough water for 2 it doesn't have to be huge.--►

Re: Hey all. Looking for a Tetsubin cast iron teapot
Welcome to TeaChat!
It has to be unlined, that is a tetsubin kettle versus a lined tetsubin teapot. I would suggest that you take time to scroll through the Teaware and Accessories forum here, lots of tetsubin topics!

I did look through but It can be confusing. I read that this one can be used on a stovetop but it is coated.--► http://ncane.com/iw2
I also read that the Joyce Chen Tetsubin tea pot can also be used on the stovetop. I've been researching everything I can on the net but come up confused. LOL.

I have never heard anyone say to go a head and put a lined tetsubin on a stove top burner. In fact I have likely heard it stated at least a hundred times not to.
I think you can use a tea light warmer for lined tetsubin-s however.
I had not heard Joyce Chen made stove top tetsubin-s. I had only seen the enameled.
I guess I should ask, you are talking about the black shiny enamel coating on the inside of "teapot" tetsubin-s?
Generally the enamel coated ones are simply not heavy duty enough either for the stove top ...

You need a special enamel for this (such as Le Creuset French Ovens) but it isn't the kind of enamel most (perhaps all) lined tetsubin are made of.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad I asked before I bought one. I've learned not to trust everything you read on the net. Thanks for having patience with me. I may just get into stainless steel and make my own in the style and size I'm looking for. I'm really good with metals like steel, iron, brass, silver and gold but I have never worked with stainless steal. Maybe I'll take a class this summer and make some thick stainless kettles.

Ok guys n gals another question on the same kinda topic, hehe. I found this on the net--► "Cast Iron is very heavy and thick and will probably last the longest. An important tip about cast iron is that until it becomes “seasoned” there is a risk for rust. Once it has been used many times, it will develop mineral deposits that will then prevent it from rusting. In the meantime, while you are waiting for it to become seasoned, be sure to dry this kettle immediately after you use it. If it does happen to rust, not all is lost. A mixture of lemon, baking soda and boiling water can remove the rust."◄--
