Re: Darjeeling Tea or Assam Tea?
Assam all the way. Darjeeling is good in the afternoon once or twice a week, but Assam and Irish Breakfast Tea are my daily staples.
Re: Darjeeling Tea or Assam Tea?
I'm just the opposite. I used to die for first flush darjeelings in my early days of tea drinking. Now, when I stray from oolong or sheng, I want that "black tea profile."Victoria wrote:Darjeeling by far. I used to be quite fond of Assam but I rarely drink it now, I really love Darjeeling.

I think geeber1 nailed it.geeber1 wrote:I liked Assam at first, but in the last few months it has been really bothering my stomach. I can't even drink what used to be my favorite Irish Breakfast. So, I much prefer Darjeelings now if I have to choose between the two. My most favorite blacks are from the Nilgiri region.
Re: Darjeeling Tea or Assam Tea?
I'm still trying to figure out what I like best.
I think I like Darjeeling better, but have only tried 1 Assam so far and not too crazy about it.
One of my favorite teas is still Yunnan golden tips it has a very rich not green taste.
Is there anything Indian that compares to that style?
I guess I could just drink Yunnan black tea, but am trying to drink different things...

I think good quality Assam is about as close as you'll get from India. There are some lovely large leaf Assam teas out there, some even resembling a Yunnan gold in appearance.

Any Indian tea anything like Yunnan golden tips- that is still my favorite tea right now.Proinsias wrote:I think good quality Assam is about as close as you'll get from India. There are some lovely large leaf Assam teas out there, some even resembling a Yunnan gold in appearance.
Assam is good, but does not have the richness of golden tips tea.
I think i would like the black pearl tea as well as it looks so similar.

Darjeeling FTW
I've tried a few assams and I just can't do it. Too malty for my taste.

I prefer Assam - with blacks, I like robust, hearty flavors. I'm the exact opposite way with Greens and Whites, ironically enough.

Same here, Cinnamon Kitty. Assam for breakfast, and Darjeelings afternoon/evening.Cinnamon Kitty wrote:Both! Assam in the morning when I need something strong and bold to wake up. Darjeeling after dinner when I can relax and enjoy all the complexities.

Re: Darjeeling Tea or Assam Tea?
Last year I bought 16,8 kilos of single estate 2nd Flush (& Autumn Flush) Darjs, so it's definitely Darjeeling!
Even though I do enjoy the occasional Assam, Nilgiri, Bai Hao Oolong & a few others.
But definitely Darjeeling!
