what size are your average/typical steeps for your fave tea?
A reminder of the actual question ...

My steeps sizes have actually decreased as well, this after 11 years drinking tea. I have decreased from 6.8 ounces (200 ml) for SENCHA, to 4, 5, or 6 ounces depending on which Sencha. For the life of me, I have no idea why, it just seems to have "evolved" that way without a conscious effort.

Began the TD with a six 5 ounce steeps of a blend of dribs and drabs of sencha which turned out quite tasty. Brewed in a Momiji Kyusu and served up in a TC/SO Deishi Biwa Hagi.
 Next up, Matcha perhaps!

With the cold weather, I've been drinking A LOT of black tea and pu, and usually a pretty good amount at a time. About 6-8 oz of steaming hot black.
Pu I usually steep less at a time, but still, several steeps later it's probably comparable to one huge cup of ceylon.

I abstain from voting, but will give my thoughts here.

When brewing Japanese greens depending on which Kyusu I am using it is often < 12 oz.

But when Brewing Oolongs, or Puerh, it is often infusions less than 3 oz.

And I know you qualified with Favorite, but they are completely different and different teas are my favorites on different days.

<10, since I typically use my 8-10oz kyusu or Koryo cup. I don't have the patience to do smaller steeps than that on a regular basis, which is why I rarely use my gaiwan.

Wuyi Amber from my Koryo this afternoon. It's heavy enough to combat the creeping chill I'm gettin' here in Vermont.

I voted less than 5 oz. My aunt gave me a lovely porcelain 150ml teapot (which is about 5 oz), so now all my Indian blacks are brewed in that. I brew most Japanese greens in a small (again, 150ml) kyusu I got from Lupicia. And for Chinese greens and oolongs I use either one of my gaiwan (all under 120ml), or yixing (the biggest I own is 220 ml, and it hasn't seen use in over a year).
The brewing size definitely went down over the last year for me.

In my cup today: Long Jing from Jing Tea Shop. Uncharacteristically, brewed in a 200 ml glass pot (I had the last 5 gm of tea, and just wanted to finish the whole batch).

hmmm favorite tea, thats a tough question all by itself but for now it would be between da hong pao and long jing. For the DHP I brew 100ml cups so thats <4 and Long jing I like to brew a single larger cup of about 7oz.

Long jing in my cup today.

Just to chime in again - I remember a couple of years ago, I used to always drink japanese greens (almost exclusively) and I always made huge infusions - 12-16oz!
Now, I use my kikumaru kyusu, and do about 6-8oz, and consistently senchas.
Occasionally I do nice gyo, and then it's the Deishi hagi houhin - about 3oz methinks.
With matcha, I think I'm doing about 5-6oz.
Those are my fav teas.
btw - the smaller infusions yield, for me, much better quality, much more control, and also more longevity and development of characteristics across and for each tea session. :)

In my thermal cuppa now (I'ze at work ), Ancient Moonlight White.
Oops - left the whites out - they're fav's too. :D Usually my small glass pot or large glass gaiwan - so 4-6oz per.

Cheers.

For the the time being, it not necessarily my favorite tea that chooses the steep size, but my favorite cups that can only be filled to a certain level. If favorite tea of the day can be brewed in either one of my favorite cups, then the answer is less than 8oz. Even if it can be brewed in my slightly less than favorite cups, then it would still be less than 8oz.

I had my new chawan from Elm Studios waiting for me when I got home from work today! Though the colors in the picture are relatively accurate, I don't think it is possible to capture the subtle sparkle and silvery shimmer that accents the glaze. Sadly, I cannot test it until my matcha and gear arrive.

My "morning" mug holds about 16 oz. and what I can't drink before work comes with me in my travel mug.

It was a not-so-great tea day for me today. The only brew I got was some Nilgiri Nonsuch first thing this morning. Hopefully tomorrow will have more tea in it!

CK, had Matcha earlier in your chawan's sister. Yeah, the glaze is amazing and the pool is beguiling.

Next up, Fenghuang Shui Xian oolong with Mrs. Chip that has just been sitting around since 2005 waiting and waiting ... turns out the wait was worth it!

I finished off the TD with some genmaicha at the restaurant... I have to say, I'm getting used to it, now that I actually know how to properly steep it! Not up to "favorite" level yet, but it's gone from "undrinkable" to "drinkable" to "enjoyable" in less than a week!
