Tea Mystery

by masimmo » Feb 14th, '10, 18:23

A friend of mine taught English in Japan the other year. This green tea was one of the food presents that she gave after she came back to the US last year. I saved the tin. I liked this tea a lot. It was close to a chartreuse color maybe even more of a yellow color. The tea had a fairly strong grassy taste. Does anyone recognize this brand? The logo looks like three mountains. Or does anyone have a suggestion from the short description I gave?

Don't recognize it, but I don't have the experience others do with Japanese tea. It was most likely a type of sencha (probably light steamed if the color was more golden and less green), so you may be pleased with some other sencha brands that are easy to order online. Or are you already well versed in Japanese tea, and found this particular variety much more appealing than others? If so, hopefully someone else will recognize it.

I am not well versed in Japanese tea. I was hoping to at least find something similar to that tea. Thanks. I'll look for a light steamed sencha on some of those online stores listed in the other thread.

Well I can tell you the name definitely has something to do with mountains, 山 is the Japanese character for mountain. As for the other ones, no idea :)

EDIT: Also, what is that phone number? Kind of looks like "254-2527". From searching it looks like 254 is a Kyoto number...

Seems I was right, they are in Kyoto. Looks like a nice website, too.

Yeah, a really nice looking site. I checked it out too. Didn't see that exact logo though, so we may have just stumbled upon something close.

Most likely, as the phone number they have there is 254-2577, the last two digits were hard to make out on the tin in the picture.

It certainly isn't Marukyuu-Koyamaen, which is in Uji. And this logo definitely says Shizuoka.
