Shu puerh puts me to sleep even I drink it at 9pm and go to bed 11pm. I got several samplers of shou, something of 7+ year, and not all help me to sleep. I suggest for those who are caffeine-sensitive to try drinking a glass of warm fresh milk 1 hour before going to bed. It helps but the pee..pee.. problem is of course at your own risk

I am very sensitive to caffeine at night. I keep some flavored rooibos (cant stand regular) and a few herbal/fruit teas (not chamomile, yuck!!!) on hand for after 5/6 if im working, 3 if not (i work evenings so i stay up later when i work). Sometimes i will finish off any remaining infusions in one of my white teas. i have tried a few decaf teas, so far nothing great, the vanilla flavored decaf from special teas was ok with a decent amount of sugar (i dont really care for flavored "real" teas), better than some of the other decafs i have tried. though even the rooibos and herbal I try to stop 1-2 hrs before bed so im not up all night in the bathroom!!!

I can usually drink tea before bed without much of a problem if I go to sleep pretty much right afterward while I'm still warm and relaxed from the whole experience. If I wait too much longer though the warm calmness will wear off and the caffeine seems to kick in-- then I'm in trouble, hah!

Haha, yes, that sounds veeeery familiar... I don't drink black tea (like Earl Grey or pu-erh) after 8:00 pm unless I want a bit of a caffeine boost, but I'm fine with drinking green or white tea right before bed.

Of course, it's very possible that I'm imagining the caffeine boost and experiencing a placebo effect or something, because I can drink coffee right before bed and not be affected. :)

Oh I can drink it all night...I just don't sleep.

Last night at around 9:30 I made a cup of Ceylon Sonata because I got a sample and hadn't tried it. I ended up not going to bed until around 1:30am.

I almost need to drink tea right before bed...I get a relaxing effect not a jolt of energy...if I skip my bedtime tea then that´s when I have a hard time sleeping...too many anxieties running through my head and I get insomnia. :?

So yeah tea at night...it´s a requirement.

I do drink tea at night, but generally it's a gongfu session with a relatively small amount of tea to begin with, and there's not that much caffeine left by the end when I'm getting ready for bed. If I really want tea just before bed, that's probably a moment for chamomile or mint or another caffeine-free herbal.
