wuyi leaf to water ratio?

I have a 300ml yixing that I have dedicated to medium roast wuyi for hosting to more guests. How much leaf by weight would you wuyi fans recommend?

I brew with a 3:4 or 1:1 ratio of leaf to pot space, but that's just my personal preference. I find it hard to extract certain characteristics from a tea if I'm using a smaller amount of tea.

I tend to prefer my wuyi between 1 and 2 grams per 2 oz water, so for a pot of about 10 ounces, I would start with about 7 or 8 grams, in the middle, and go from there.

yeah I'm attempting to comprehend brewing as I've learned in a 300 ml pot, I dare say depending on how strong I feel like it at that time, that just might be 15 grams of leaf for one session. How many other people are you talking about?

I serve 6 with my 120ml pot, though we all get less than half an ounce of tea per steep, but its strong, delicious, and wuyi lends itself great to re steeping at least 3-4 more times.

The real benefits of drinking wuyi teas are better had in small teapots with small cups for guests. In this way, you can buy better grade tea as you will use less leaf and it will be more economical. Filling a 120ml teapot 1/2-3/4 full, loosely put in, doesn't weigh as much as tightly rolled oolongs. In this way, you can extract the full flavors and aromas of wuyi teas and each small cup can be savored by you and your guests. 10-20 sec 1st brew. Adjust from there. Often, older wuyi is better.

Yes 8 would be a hard number to serve, but if you don't mind using this much leaf I would explore using something in the range of 13-16 grams for the 300 ml pot, but I don't recommend attempting that for yourself, it would be a large amount of extra strength tea.

300 ml pot to around 25g better grade will be a good start. For me, I will go for 30 to 35g using $3+/gram grade, hotter water, shorter infusions.

normally we will put 7 grams of Wuyi tea in the 120cc or 150cc Gaiwan, boiling water, short infusion to get the better tea taste.

I agree with others- fill your pot 3/4 to 1/1 full of dry leaf. Depending on the wuyi, it sometimes helps to crush a little of the leaf as well.

Even with 8 people, sounds like you'll be using that pot for hours (and on the pot for hours if you use low grade leaf).

When I first started out I found that some teas work well with a lower ratio and longer infusions (e.g. 5g to 100ml starting at 30sec). I've since moved on to the 3/4 to completely full technique. I find the results to be much more interesting. You have to develop the taste for it.

edit: I know use the 60ml gaiwan from the Tea Gallery. I don't measure the leaf with a scale but I've measured it before at about 5.5-6 grams. I love this little thing, my 100ml one looks massive now!
