Interesting article on Longjing regulations

Here is an interesting article on new longjing regulations cracking down on unlicensed producers. I found the link via Facebook by Lochan Tea:

Hopefully this is good news, a step in the right direction, and not just rhetoric intended to quiet the critics of the current conditions. Still, according to the article, Long Jing will still possibly come from virtually anywhere producing good facsimiles as long as they apply for a licence to use the name and are approved. I am not digging that.

This is certainly not a panacea for the current counterfeiting issues. I would have been more pleased if the new licensing regulations were not so full of loopholes.

They also should make laws to protect and indentify "real" Xi Hu Long Jing from the protected area, and also point out the original cultivars on the package, I read in that article that they also would allow some other regions to use the name if they meet some quality standard.
