yixing newb, which to choose

by Alucard » Mar 4th, '10, 14:45

I recently broke the lid from an inexpensive yixing pot ;( *sniff*. Funny (or not so funny) that it broke shortly after a read a post about someone else breaking their lid.

I am looking to buy a higher quality pot and wanted to know what the community thinks about price vs. quality vs. benefit for the 2 pots below. I will be using it to brew high mountain oolongs, eventually build a collection for other teas.

This is from dragon house tea @ $100

This is from Norbu @ $37

I'm still rather new when it comes to Yixing's myself, but the reason you are having errors posting URL's is you are still in the "probationary" membership time. You do not have enough posts or have not been here long enough.

I think Norbu resells Yunnan Sourcing teapots and you can get this shiupin cheaper if ordered directly:

I don't have any teapots from DTH or from Yunnan Sourcing/Norbu, but my recent question regarding the same $99 80s clay teapot yielded that it is overpriced for what it is.

For $99 you can also look at teapots from Chen's: zishateapot.co.uk. I own a 120ml xi shi made of dicao qing clay and it is very decent. Their website is a problem, though, looks like it is quite broken at the moment.

The Norbu one, I believe is the same as the one from yunnnansourcing. I have one, like it very much (I have the impression many other people have it and like it very much) :D Yunnansourcing sells it for less though :D That Zhou Huaqiang is not very famous, but I think he does good job.

Thanks again. I just purchased from yunnansourcing, along with yunnan gold tea.
