`Tea hands down' for me. I like nice teaware, but I don't like to own too many things. In fact, the only things that I collect are books.
Ban Tian Yao with breakfast again today and Hibiki-an super-premium fukamushi with lunch.

Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/24/10 Tea Teaware Wars?
Good question. Good answers!
PreHagi, clearly it was all about the tea for me personally. I was largely drinking from dollar Chinatown cups, an old glass mug, and had broken kyusu-s for brewing.
Hagi has changed that. Now at least teaware matches up with the tea. It is a toss up. Still, if I was on an deserted island and could have the best teaware or the best tea, tea would win. Of course, but that is out of necessity not a matter of faves.
Enjoy your TD, heading to Teavana (
) to look at Washi canisters ... another fave! Maybe take some pictures while I am there, see what the sales staff has to say about that!!!

Began the TD with the mystery sencha from Ryu Mei with Mrs. Chip. Today it was OUTSTANDING ... especially in this teaware combo, Kenji Kyusu and Deishi Biwa Wan.

Tea, most definitely. I love teaware, and it might be more permanent than tea, but I tire of objects more quickly than flavors.
Assam Hazelbank to start the day, though just water at the moment.

What is teaware with no tea?
For me, it's definitely the tea. I'd steep tea in an old shoe if I had to.
Let hope it never comes to that. It would probably be bitter.

It's close for me, but tea wins out. Something about each mug that I have makes me happy, though-- they're all Goodwill finds and are amazingly cool (one has an ukiyo-e illustration, another has a gigantic rainbow wrapping around it, and so on), and they have a lot of sentimental value.

Then you HAVE teaware. How would you brew and drink tea without the implements to make the tea? I was not speaking to the quality of the teaware in my comments above..... just that you need SOME teawae to have tea...and you need some tea itself to brew. Hand in hand. PArt of a whole. Teaware CAN (shudder) include a styrofoam cup and a teabag and a old cooking pot to heat water.morvaltur wrote:While teaware is important, I can make do with any teaware...so long as I have the right tea....

Hands down tea wins. If it wasn't for tea I wouldn't have started collecting teaware. If I quite drinking tea then I would not be buying any more teaware so its all about the tea. I do really really love my teaware, especially the hagi and yixing ware but it would be useless without the tea it holds.

Okay, back again after thinking about it, and I still have to go with teaware. I use teaware to drink coffee (talk about "cross-brewing!") On my desk at work is always one of my nicer teacups from which I drink water. One of these is an unglazed Fred Parker cup and another is one of my hagi cups.
I drink juice out of porcelain teacups. I drink fine scotch from very small teacups. (I also use guinomi for tea and scotch.
)
I love tea, really really love it, but for me, it's the teaware. If it weren't for the pots and cups, I'd be an irregular tea-drinker at best.

Thanks Seeker for coloring TD for us!!! Erica is represented I see ...
Visited the dark halls of the evil TeaEmpire aka Teavaina. Actually had 2 nice associates in two twin stores. But there was plenty of evil afoot in other associates.
We came away with some nice Washi, which is all I would ever consider getting there. Cranes and Sakura and Dragonflies reigned supreme.
Sorry, just a quicky phone shot today.

Finishing the TD with Long Jing from TS ... in a Taiwanese "gaiwanesque" set from Purepurh.

Started out the day with Baozhong at work, had some White Peony when I got home. Not my favorite white, but still very nice.

It's definitely the tea for me.
I can live without teaware, but I can't live without tea.
Bao zhong here, too. At work, too as it happens.
