Never a substitution, although occasionally I suffered through a nasty cup of bagged tea in order to share something hot to drink when others were drinking coffee.
Just like tea.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 3/30/10 Substitution principle?
I had been drinking unpleasant tea from bags all my life.
Then I got into my sinophile period...reading about taoism, zen buddhism and doing tai chi. And so I tried this obscure Chinese green tea that nobody in my vicinity had ever even heard about called xi hu long jing
After that there was no looking back.
edit: Drinking smooth mellow green kukicha

Definitely substituting for coffee. (I LOVE coffee, but it doesn't love me so much.) This morning I did have a nice mug of coffee, and took my daily photo, and now don't have time for tea... yet. (I'll have plenty at my office today, since it's mostly an admin day.)
Neep the Jacabunny is bereft without his spot of tea -

Thanks Geek for brightening our TD.
"Yes, I was simply looking for more healthy lifestyle choices." This encompasses many things, including drinking things that were better for me, but also I realize a caffeine kick was a bonus ... and I NEVER drank coffee.
Little did I know what would happen once I tried REAL tea, although I had on a rare occasion had a cup of bagged tea for years before. But 11 years ago, I had my first loose tea, and that changed everything. Then it was all about the tea!
Began the TD with mystery sencha from Ryu Mei. SweeTea was enjoying it while Precious and TEAh were visitors to the TeaTable.

Same as Victoria. An occasional drinker who was converted to the "real thing."Victoria wrote:No substitution - I had been drinking it occasionally, but when I discovered whole leaf and oolong - that's when it happened.
Lover's Leap Ceylon at home this morning. Currently at work, I'm finishing up some 2nd flush Darjeeling. Not great, but good enough for work!
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 3/30/10 Substitution principle?
My parent's used to always ask me to make them a cup of tea after my dad would come home from work, I HATED having to make them tea but they always said I would make the best tea (probably just to keep my doing it lol), so one day I tried it... and that is how it all began.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 3/30/10 Substitution principle?
I began drinking tea just because I really enjoyed the whole experience. I had never had much tea when my brother introduced me to lapsang souchong and I loved it so much. I started buying teabags from walmart at first but I couldn't forget the wonderful smokey lapsang flavor so I went online to order some. I thought heck why not buy some other loose leaf teas to try and that was the begining of my journey.

After my morning gunpowder, had some lychee flavored black with lunch this afternoon, and shared the last of a sample of Lishan with my boyfriend while we ate dinner.
As an addendum to my earlier post, I used to drink coffee, until one day about freshman year of college, I discovered that it did strange and unpleasant things to my stomach... and I haven't been able to drink it ever since. So my hot-beverage of choice has been tea for several years - partially by choice, partially by necessity (and fortunately it keeps me from all the weird sweetened coffee drinks). Though I do have a spot in my stomach for spiced apple cider... very tasty warm!

I drink tea nonstop from the time I wake up until I go to bed. It is 11:41 am and so far I've drank:
2003 Dayi 7572 Shoupu
2009 Dian Hong
1997 Zhongcha Shengpu
The day's only half over though.
