This is how the handrubbed tea is made, I have never seen such care taken for one tea.
Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
I'm sure you would have no problem affording temomicha. The only problem is the volume you would get for that price. Likely 10g or less. But I guess that's part of the definition of 'afford.'I doubt I could afford that tea.
I was looking at offerings from this year's national temomicha competition and each lot was sold at only 3g each. The most expensive of the bunch (probably one of the top winners at the competition) was 5250en (about $60) for 3g. But most of the others were far more reasonable. =]
Edit: And of course, by 'this year's' I mean last year's!
Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
Generally competition winning gyokuro (All Japan tea competitio) cost around 300 $ for 100 gram, but at Marukyu Koyamaen you can get for 120 $, and it is handrubbed gyokuro, and Kaburaigen sells handrubbed sencha, although not confirmed.

Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
I want some of that tea! So gorgeous.
But probably I should spend several years exploring the various ordinary senchas to be able to properly appreciate something like that.

Really interesting. It's really gold, not even green. The liquor looks more like a white tea.
Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
The green in sencha tends to come from little leaf particles in the tea, not the actual color of the infusion. If you brew asamushi sencha its hardly ever green, and it is much closer to the color of this tea.Sam. wrote:Really interesting. It's really gold, not even green. In fact I'd be worried if I ever brewed a whole leaf green tea and the infusion was actually green.

This is true, all my high quality asamushi were yellowish green.AdamMY wrote:The green in sencha tends to come from little leaf particles in the tea, not the actual color of the infusion. Hello to all
Would anybody know how to source such a temomicha and have it sent to Europe or would anybody from Japan or with connections there be able to jump in as a proxy to order some?
I've been looking at what Kaburaigen has on offer, but the prices seem rather suspicious...
Anyhow, thanks for your help.

Yamashitas top gyokuros sold at http://www.maiko.ne.jp/english/shopping ... yokuro.htm has such handrolled leaves, and they also had a limited edition offer this year for an award winning gyokuro, and http://www.marukyu-koyamaen.co.jp/engli ... ds_04.html top Chitose no Homare for 120 $ is handrolled tea that competes yearly in the All Japan teacompetition http://www.japantea.hu/index.php?pageid ... e_teateszt .
Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
Thank you very much for the reply. I've had both of those teas before and while I can recommend both, they are not quite similar to the temomicha shown in the video or elsewhere, as they don't actually contain the whole leaf.
If anybody has an idea to get ahold of other temomicha's please do let me know.

Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
Sugimoto USA offered it as a LE shincha that required preordering last year. I think it was 10 gram baggettes for 10 bucks. Theirs were WHOLE leaf and spectacular!
Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
I want to say it was more like $20 for 10g...?Chip wrote:I think it was 10 gram baggettes for 10 bucks.
Sugimoto is probably your best bet for finding a bit of temomicha domestically (US). They're proud of their family's temomicha artists and will almost certainly be offering it again in spring.
Again, my source in Saitama has a good selection year-round, of not just his own temomi but award winning lots from many artists. However, he tends to sell by 3g. I look to him for his innovative new styles of tea, more than temomi... =\
Re: Hand rubbed sencha making video
Would anybody be able to acquire THE tea from the video?
Money is no issue.
Or could anybody bring me into contact with somebody who is able to acquire this tea?
