Just got my $3 sampler from Den's Tea!

by Rithmomachy » May 18th, '10, 16:42

I drove home at lunch today hoping that I'd have a package either from Den's Tea or Yunnan Sourcing, and the Den's Tea box was waiting for me.

HOLY COW that's good tea!

I've mostly been a drinker of Chinese teas, and I've mostly settled for mediocre quality. I've had genmaicha and I tried houjicha a long time ago, but I've never had good quality sencha before. Until just now that is!

I had no idea tea could taste like this!!!

Now I know why people talk about Japanese greens as something special and as so different from Chinese! Now I know what people mean when when they talk about a tea being "buttery." And above all, I know exactly why people here said the Den's Tea sampler was the best $3 they ever spent on tea! (Maybe the best $3 period!)

All I've tried so far is the sencha teabag. I can't wait to try the rest. But then I'll have to wait for the next order to come! Oh no! I'd better order more right away and drink slowly in the meantime. I hope I can hold out....

You know you need a artisan kyusu to drink the loose leaf sencha, right? In fact, you might need several...

It's a bit embarrassing! I didn't think of myself as a tea newbie. I knew I had a lot of "teaspace" to explore, but I thought I knew the broad contours. I didn't expect to have a revelatory tea experience. At least not until I'm able to try some 30 year old pu!

The first good Japanese tea is a revelation tea for many tea drinkers! I remember mine very clearly.

Enjoy your samples!

One Den's green tea sampler, and less than a year later I am suffering indecision paralysis as I try to prepare my first order of sencha directly from Japan. I have now tried Den's Fukamushi sencha, Senchas Zuiko and Shin-ryoku, and enjoyed them all, plus samples of several more.

Caution: can be habit forming!

The Den's sampler was my intro to Japanese greens, and that's what got me hooked (sipping on some Den's houji-kukicha right now). I'm really fond of samplers in general. Found a couple of Chinese greens that I really enjoyed while working through the Seven Cups sampler, and my first taste of white tea a few days ago from the Adagio white sampler was very nice, it'll be fun working through that one. But the Den's $3 sampler, including shipping, is a no brainer!

The Den's sampler was a big eye opener from me as well. I had been looking for a good green tea with no success, and as soon as I saw a post here about this sampler I ordered it. I placed my next order within a couple of days of receiving it!

Drinking some Houjicha Gold, one of those from the sampler, right now.

It also helped me make the next step, some Shincha from O-Cha!

I do find that brewing sencha is a bit of a challenge, but I keep learning more and the reward is so great!

Well, you all seem very excited about this so I just ordered one! I can't wait to try it, I know I really liked the gyo aracha I tried, so maybe I'll like other Japanese greens!!!
