IngenuiTEA and cleaning?

by Schrammy » May 19th, '10, 19:12

I have the IngenuiTEA, and I just can't seem to get it 100% clean. Are there any tips to getting the tea stains completely off of the unit? It's already been through the dish washer a few times.

Believe it or not, it's all in the dishwasher soap you use.
Which have you been using?

I had the same problem back when I was using mine and
all of a sudden it was sparkling clean with a different soap.

But I'm trying to remember which I used.

The dishwasher has... Finish brand, and the regular soap is Ajax I believe. It just seems to never get clean, even though everything else in the load does.

Yes, I know what you mean, everything gets clean - yes.
But some detergents will bleach it out sparkling clean.
I just can't remember which one. Ack. I am thinking it might be
Sunlight.

My DH uses Electrosol and it gets the stained parts sparkly clean! :D

I've actually bleached mine before. I put a diluted bleach solution inside, let it sit for a while, and then run it through the dishwasher. I can't detect any residual odor or taste in the filter, and it works really well.

I second Sarah on the bleach solution. Works like a charm and it gets into the nooks and crannies. If you set the IngenuiTea in the sink with a little of the bleach solution, it will clean the underside as well.

I do this too. Speaking of, I noticed a wee bit of green mold in mine this morning. I used it 2-3 days ago then forgot to clean it out. I bleached it and will run it through the dishwasher... It should be safe to use, right?

I've never had mold in mine, but I can vouch that bleach is great for destroying mold. I would think it will be just fine after a trip through the dishwasher.
