I generally try to "figure a tea out". Especially with Pu'er I find that sessions with the same tea are very subjective and change a lot depending on my mood & brewing techniques.

Although, if the tea is complete crap I will throw it away. Too many other teas to drink!

No tea yet today. Spent most of the day outside. However, I have the results of my Darjeeling cupping from yesterday! :D

1. Castleton Estate
2. Margaret's Hope
3. Sungma
4. Yashodhara

The Castleton was the clear winner and the Yashodhara was the clear loser. The middle two, however, were very close. It was quite interesting & fun to compare them side by side, I recommend it!

Mostly 2-4, gives me a chance to play around with brewing parameters to find something about it that I enjoy. If I feel like I'm getting the hang of it but it's not quite perfect, I'll give it a couple more tries. If I still hate it by the 3rd or 4th time, I'll see if anyone else in the house will drink it, if not and it's bagged I'll take it to work; if not and it's not bagged, I'll pitch it. Example: the asian-market-gunpowder I bought a couple months ago. I liked it for a month or so, but now I can't seem to brew it right, and I'm not sure what I'm doing different. Need to make the boyfriend try it again to see if he wants to take it to work, but it's been collecting dust until I remember to pull it out again. If he doesn't like it this time, it's going straight to the trash.

Snowbud all day at work.

The Yashodhara & Sungma are from SpecialTeas, while the remaining two are from Upton.

So Upton won this battle! They do Darjeelings pretty well.

Currently Adagio's Shincha Shizuoka.

How are you finding Adagio's Shincha? It's interesting that they've ventured into the territory, but no way I can justify getting it this year. Depending on what all y'all say about it, maybe next year, though.

Tried Mighty Leaf's Yunnan today. I expected it to be reasonably good (or at least not bad) since ML tends to be pretty consistent, but I absolutely could not handle it. Seriously disappointed. Off to drown my sorrow in rooibos, probably.

I think you will have some this year ... Capish!

OK, 2 tries so far. I would say it is going to be very approachable and pretty easy to brew to newer shincha/sencha drinkers.

Yunnan noir with dinner (needed something I knew everyone else would drink too!), then some Fukamidori, then had some non-tea-involved homemade ginger ale!

Only a handful of teas have left my cupboard to be fed directly to the worm bin: some lapsong souchong, some CTC black teas that I should never have bought in the first place, a few green teas that I couldn't figure out, before I had my green tea breakthrough this fall/winter, and most recently some matchas that I tried several times and kept around until they were unappealingly aged.

This evening, enjoying some Diamond TGY from Norbu, a tea that took 1 brewing to fall hopelessly in love with; after a day that started with some Tenryu Misakubo, which took a couple of tries to get just right; and in between, a thermos full of some 'not fermented' korean green tea that I drank 'to the bitter end' although it was never a truly wonderful tea experience--it was never particularly bad either.

If I have a tea which does not hold up to its expectation like little flavor and no aroma I delegate it to my Monday morning breakfast tea and spice it up with those jasmine flavored cannon balls. 3 balls per 250 ml cup is enough for my taste. I could not bring it over me not to use it.
