Tokoname-ware

by wanna-be buddha » Jun 11th, '07, 11:26

Hey folks. I love Tokoname ware, and I'm in the market for a new kyusu. I'm leaning towards Rishi's Fukugata (http://www.rishi-tea.com/store/product. ... =25&page=1), which is just perfect for my needs, but I'd like to compare it with others. Here's the catch: I don't want a modern kyusu with a mesh filter. I want a kyusu (like the Fukugata) with a clay sasame.

Anybody know a good vendor? I'll probably end up sticking with Rishi, as they haven't let me down yet, but it's nice to shop around. Thanks for the help!

Hi,
Yeah, Sasame screen tokoname pots are not too common in the USA. Rishi has an interesting selection. Den's tea has one very fine one.

There are several in Japan who offer them as well.

Thanks for the response. I'll check out Den's stuff as well.

I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper with a sasame than the fukugata. I have one, and I love it. It funtions just as well as my other, much more expensive Tokoname pots.

I'm going to have to check out Den's tea as well.

I have two email "friends" who have the Den pot, they both love it.

I do like the idea of brewing sencha in a white pot. All the teacups that I actually use are either white or glass. I find this is most enjoyable as well al helping me to observe the natural beauty of my Japanese brew.

I love white pots too, so I'm kind of torn between the Fukugata and the Kikumaru. There's something so classically appealing about the red-clay kyusu, though...

The kikumaru is a nicer pot, the sasame is a little higher quality with smaller holes, but there is a big price difference. I love both of them, so that's a tough choice. You clearly have to buy them both.

Blast, you're right. Man, I've only been here for a day and already I'm succumbing to peer pressure!

Yeah, this forum is not really free, the peer pressure here can end up costing you a fortune.

13 posts on your first day, that has to be a record for # of posts on the first day on the forum.

13 posts is a lot, especially for a non-spammer or a non-Tomasini, bless him.

Where is that boy anyway? I've missed him these past few days.
