Greetings from S. Florida

by TwoPynts » Jul 9th, '10, 14:40

Hello everyone. I've been a Tea Muse reader for a while now, but just found and joined the forum today after reading the interesting article on Pu-erh. It sound like a tea I'd like to try though I admit to being intimidated by it. I'm a fan of all sorts of hot and cold teas; from Oolong to green to Earl Grey to Mugicha. I'm not an expert though so I look forward to learning from the more experienced tea enthusiasts on TeaChat.

Right now I'm sipping on some iced barley tea and I had a cup of Mystic Dragon Tea this morning (http://www.spiceandtea.com/mystic-dragon-tea-p-539.html). :)

EDIT: I forgot to add that I also enjoy Chai and Kombucha, though I'm not sure if they qualify as your standard teas. I spent my high school years on Okinawa, which is where I learned there was more to tea than just English Breakfast. I'm now nearing the 40 year mark and am wondering if I'll ever be able to try all the wonderful varieties before moving on to that great teapot in the sky.

Hmm, IMO you will want to sample the 3 main types of pu to see what you like.
  • young sheng
    old sheng
    shu
Young shengpu and shupu will both be much cheaper than sampling old sheng.

BBB has a pretty awesome beginner's guide, found here:

Also, samples (by the gram) of some nice old cakes can be found from Essence of Tea:

Hope this helps! :D
