Teapot in Washington DC

by msurads06 » Aug 5th, '10, 20:07

I figured i would post here and maybe speed up my search. I am going to DC next month and would like to pick up a teapot while i am there as a "souvenir". (and because i want/need another teapot). Not looking for tourist labled garbage (doesnt have to say DC or pic of monuments or anything), just a nice, smaller teapot (8-12 oz max preferred). I know there is a china town in DC, but have heard it is pretty disapointing, i only have 2 1/2 days so i dont want to spend alot of time hunting for a teapot. does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks for your help.

Agreed, the DC Chinatown is pretty blah. Worth a walk through, you never know. But forget about getting good tea there!!!

Teaism was pretty cool around 7 years ago, lots and lots of artisan pots in the style of Yixing, but very contemporary and American. I am sure their product line has changed. http://www.teaism.com/Restaurant/PennQuarter7.html
And pretty decent tea as I recall, but definitely not a cheap place!

There are three locations, this is likely the best for teapots as I recall. But definitely worth checking out. Have fun and please report back!

An article on Teaism from the Washington Post a couple of years back.

Try Ching Ching Cha in Georgetown. I was there a few days ago. The yixing selection is ok. It is a nice place to order tea and have a light lunch.

I haven't been to Teaism in awhile. The main location is next to their restaurant downtown. There is also a location in DuPont Circle which is a fun area to explore. There are many restaurants in DuPont as well.

Looks like a nice shop, TokyoB! Hopefully get to see it one day! Used to get to DC a few times a year.

Will definately check out teaism, if only for lunch, looks like it has a good location, near the mall.

From the pictures it looks like chingchingcha has a pretty large selection of teawares, how are their prices? im looking to keep the price under $30-$40. has anyone eaten there and if so how is the food? I hadnt planned to visit georgetown, but it looks like i may have to try to fit it in.

Their prices range, but lean towards the higher limit of your budget, but they have enough wares (at least for a B&M store) in most budget ranges.

I have eaten at Ching Ching Cha but not in awhile. For lunch they usually have 3 lunch set choices I believe. One is usually salmon and I think there might be a vegetarian option.

I believe they have a few pots in that price range. I also noticed that they now have pots going up to $300. Don't hesitate to call them and ask if you want to know more. I believe the owners are from HK.
