Hi Everyone,
I've been reading the boards for awhile and finally decided to join the forums. I've recently become fascinated with many different kinds of tea and am looking forward to learning and sharing here. A friend had given me a bag of Matchaira Genmai-cha (Green tea with match and brown rice) about 4 years ago and it is still in a sealed bag. I recently found it while cleaning out some shelves and was wondering if it was still good. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks so much and have a great day.

The Genmai-cha tasted fine, nice and malty, and sort of like popcorn, I just hope it's okay to drink such old tea lol because I really like it!

As long as the storage has been decent - foil packet or something - it's fine to drink tea with a few years on it. If it's been out in the open, or not very airtight, just make sure it has nothing obviously growing on it.
If it's not mouldy and it tastes fine you're sorted.
I was drinking tea older than me yesterday, it was excellent.

Got to balance out the shincha fest Chip's been pushing. 70's oolong tou cha from Hou de yesterday, 90's sheng tou from Nada atm. I think old tea tastes even better following an afternoon of super fresh green.

Tea especially that sealed in a bag with modern technology does not really expire. The taste will not be as fresh but as long as moisture does not get inside then it is fine
