I was doing some digging, and found the price difference between the 3 years.
7542: 2001 = RM80/USD25 per beeng (price for 1 beeng after averaging it from buy 2, free 1)
http://tea-li.com/goods.php?id=200
7542: 2002 = RM288/USD90 per beeng
http://www.skip4tea.com/%E5%8B%90%E6%B5 ... doit=order
7542: 2003 (302 batch) = RM85/USD26 per beeng
http://www.skip4tea.com/%E5%8B%90%E6%B5 ... doit=order
Is the 2001 and 2003 correctly priced? Or is 2002 overpriced?
I've tasted 2001, and seem ok to me, just not sure whether it is a real beeng or fake one. Anyone has the 7542 (2001) cover picture? Is the 2001 price the market price?

I would bet heavily these are fake. If you go on Taobao and look for 7542's of vintage 2005-2006, they are costing $70 and more. so to be able to get a 2001 at that price... no. also look at the tea, it is way to tippy to be a 7542.

is it really a "tippy" issue?
see these for "tippy" comparison:

On the other hand, Taobao does avg around $80 USD for a 2002. Cheapest I saw was about $44 USD.

It may not be fake. The low price may be due to WET storage or later batch series.

Checked Taobao: 7542 1993 - RMB3500/9000shogun89 wrote:I would bet heavilily these are fake. If you go on Taobao and look for 7542's of vintage 2005-2006, they are costing $70 and more. so to be able to get a 2001 at that pirce... no. also look at the tea, it is way to tippy to be a 7542.
Orange in Orange 1996 - RMB10000
Nadacha 7542 - 1993 - £ 198.00/ RMB2109 (pretty tippy too, you can check)
Orange in Orange 1996 - £ 198.00/ RMB2109 .... Q.E.D.
I had had these samples from Nadacha and they were ("were" sigh? should have gotten more) really nice and fair value. Ssssh!!! {whisper} these prices even cheaper than similar cakes in Malaysia OK! don't buy up all of Nada's stocks, I still need to get more samples.
Bottomline, buy from trustworthy vendors with good track records. Especially for pu, get from vendors with experience and knowledge in puerh not just any guy from no where who claim to be an expert. There are many excellent blogs from tea drinkers for their opinions. Beware of those with fancy packaging (exception XZH), loud promotion and especially new and unknown writers (like myself), who knows what our motives are and integrity.

On the other hand, I don't sell tea nor teawarespgho wrote: Beware of those with fancy packaging (exception XZH), loud promotion and especially new and unknown writers (like myself), who knows what our motives are and integrity.

p.s. I am actually looking out for one or two zhuni pots, have had enough of burns on my hands from gaiwans. So many nice pots in the yixing thread!!

I bought the 2002 from skip4tea. I can't say if it's a 7542 or not, but it is good tea in my opinion. It has aged well, not wet stored. Very drinkable. I would say that the price is about right. I like skip4tea. My experience with them is that the price is an indicator of the quality. Most of the cakes I have bought from them have been very good but I would only buy them if they aren't too cheap. In other words, almost everything I've bought from them that was more than RM 200 has been good. I would be wary of the 2003 for RM 85.

Re: 7542: 2001/2002/2003 - Price difference?
The tippiness between the 7542's and the ones in question are different. the real 7542 does have tips but not all tips, look at the picture of the 2001 "7542". It looks like a yunnan gold cake, it is pretty much 100% tips.I can guarantee you that you will not find a 2001 7542 for $25. Keep in mind that a 2010 7542 sells for $20...
Re: 7542: 2001/2002/2003 - Price difference?
On 2nd look, the picture does show lots of tips. An earlier comment about storage condition could be true too. There are many vendors and collectors storing puerh, this might be a case a not good stored (badly) batch being sold off at below market price. Mind you at that price, it is still one great return. The original wholesales price in 2001 would probably be under USD8 in Malaysia or Guangzhou. Always important to taste before buying.shogun89 wrote:The tippiness between the 7542's and the ones in question are different. the real 7542 does have tips but not all tips, look at the picture of the 2001 "7542". This cake looks more like an 8582 than a 7542 to me. The larger leaves look closer to average grade 8 leaves than grade 4 to me.7542: 2003 (302 batch) = RM85/USD26 per beeng
