Empty Matcha canisters?

by Tobias » Sep 6th, '10, 17:16

I'm not a heavy matcha drinker but when I was having some earlier today I was thinking about uses for empty matcha cans, like storing tea samples or whatever. What do you use them for? Do you just throw them away or do you have a giant can pyramid (matchamid?) at home? :)

I am building a pyramid home with them!

I never throw them away, they come in handy for matcha refills, etc.

I'm getting a mental picture here, after watching a marathon of "Hoarders" today.

I use mine to store paperclips, pins, nails, etc. They're really great for that.

I save the better-quality ones which don't have paper labels and which do have a second lid (plastic insert) to keep it airtight. When I buy matcha in a larger-size bag, I fill the saved tea caddies from the bag then return the bag to the refrigerator. I leave the matcha in the caddy at room temperature.

The caddies from O-Cha's Uji Matcha Manten are great for reusing this way. At $60 per can, my pyramid is only medium size!
