Japanese tea vendors who offer sample sizes?
I've perused these forums on this question and the only suggestions were for Chinese tea vendors. I would like the opportunity to be able to try some gyokuros in small sizes to avoid paying a lot for something I might not like. I want it to be a real gyo not something that's been sitting around for awhile and/or has been cut up or is low quality

That is a pretty weird gyokuro sample set, fdrx. 7 8 gram samples, but odd gyo offerings including gyo genmaicha and gyo mecha. I would not want to base my decision on whether or not I like gyo on this sample set.
Seriously, you would be better off just trying a good gyo in a 50 gram bag from a reputable online seller. The Kame from O-Cha is stellar gyo. Although starting with the best gyo's is not what I recommend either. But the Kame is a current fave.
Generally Japanese vendors do not do the sample thing, just not their bag. Hope to have a Gyo-OTTI this Winter.

Maiko Tea shop has a sample pack for Yamashita gyokuro for around $50 including tax. It is a 8 gram per sample from the highest grade to their lessor one, and one aged gyokuro:
Yashiki no cha
Takumi
Nomigoro
Shuppin-Gyokuro
Yamashita-Jirushi
