Help identifying this cake

by peterolin » Sep 9th, '10, 09:01

Hi!

I asked a friend travelling to China to buy some tea for me. I asked for some sheng Pu'erh, and that he could pay arund 55 USD.

He brought this Image

Can someone halp me give a westernized name, origin and dating of it? I have only tried a few others before - some good, some that will probably need more time to mature. I like this one.

/Peter

between the logo and barcode (left below) it reads "changtai group" in our alphabet.
I am not sure to see well, but the vintage may be 2008 (unless the pressing would be 2009 with 2008 harvested material?).

as for what is written in chinese, were it not an image format you could paste it in babelcarp. Otherwise let somebody native in chinese chime in for further detail

Yep, looks like Chang Tai.

For reference, here's a 2004 Chang Tai from Hou de:

The "cha" symbol is stylized in the same way (with the grass radical almost looking like two mountain radicals). Seems to be a high-class brand... (Hou De also carries a 2005).

I think I find it:

http://www.51puer.com/goods.php?id=702

2007 Nannuo "Wild Growth" "Supper Stuff" from Changtai

I would not take the description "Wild" and "Supper" seriously.

Here is the official link to Changtai:

however, there is a big different in price between the Chinese version and English version, here is an example:
http://www.yichangtea.com/sdp/396618/4/ ... r_tea.html
http://www.yichangtea.com/sdp/396618/2/ ... 8F%B7.html

Is this a typo or what?

bravo!!

(the little bug in prices may be a be a wishful attempt to convert and then someone put the YUAN symbol because they were not informed what currency it might be and/or forgot the comma somewhere ? whatever but succession of mishaps I would think.)

Great research guys! Thanks.

I'll post a picture of cake and leaves when I get back home to tea and camera.

My friend i baffled that he overpaid. :-) He even hid himself outside the store and had his chinese wive's mother go in to bargain.

Product name: Chang Tai Hao-Nan Nuo Cha

Apparently the label somewhere also says it has won some organic price, or certification.

I've only had a couple of different sheng pu-erhs, Feng quing 2003 being being the one I've been drinking regularly for a while. I've tried another younger one as well.

This tea is something in between. A bit young, and with a tad more bitterness than Feng quing 2003.
