chai latte machine

by Bill Park » Oct 25th, '05, 07:23

I bet this has been asked and answered a hundred times, but I'm looking for the proper machine for making chai latte at home.

I bought the Capresso frother, and I cannot say enough bad things about it. If I can discourage anyone from buying this POS, I'd be happy to go into details. Email me privately.

The only other machine I see that looks as if it performs a similar job is the new Braun piece (Tassio? something like that...)

I'm the occasional drinker... one to four times a week. I've managed to get together my pieces/parts to allow me to skip Starbucks and make this at home. But I need a reliable steamer/frother.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,
I haven't seen this question before, and I'm looking for one too for my teahouse. If you get an answer offline, can you pls let me know?

Every restaurant equipment & beverage equipment dealer I've asked about this looks at me like I'm crazy, saying, "you mean, you don't want the whole espresso machine? I've never seen a milk steamer without it!" I know one must exist, though. I've seen that there's one on the Affinitea, but that is out of my price range right now.

i have never found a steamer alone either, but oh boy would that be a lovely addition. and it would have a smaller footprint on the countertop

i would probably own up to an expresso maker (as i do enjoy coffee and know how to make drinkies like that)...i just don't have room for that dude right now

(you can probably make a better chai at home than at starbucks imho)

after a little looking I found this...
It is a stovetop steamer, a little pricy but it would do the trick for someone at home

Thanks, Kreft and others, who have offered their ideas! Unfortunately, we don't have a range in our teahouse, and would need something that plugs into the wall...

Any inventors out there? There's a need for this!

What about geting one of those electric single burner stove deals? They are small, cheap and you can put it anywhere you want to. Then you can use the product at that link.

Honestly, though, I would just buy a cheap espresso machine, and never use the espresso making functions. Thoset hings can be bought very cheaply (about half the price of that product), and the steam wands have always worked fine for me. They are a little bulkier though for the countertop space..

One of the local coffee shops uses one of these:

it works pretty good, and you can buy those for less than $20.. (for example at this ebay auction
):

Ikea also carries those.

Hope that helps,

Ikea's got those nice mini-spinners now: I think they're under $6?

Note though: when makign a milkshake, try not to splash it all over your friends?

cnai latte machine

by kaliekid » Jan 20th, '06, 22:12

Just a thought, but I received one of those hot chocolate mixer machines...I used it with my Favorite homemade Chai Tea mix, and it works very well. It heats up the liquid, while the magnetic paddle really whips it up and causes quite a vortex. Then in 10 minutes you have hot very well mixed tea. This particular machine shuts off once the liquid is hot. But I think the $30 machine keeps the beverage hot until you turn it off. My machine was only $20 and I highly recommend it.

I use the Back to Basics Cocoa Latte machine to make my chai tea latte every morning. I use Starbucks chai syrup and nonfat milk, and as long as I get the proprtions right, it's pretty good. You can buy the machine at Bed Bath & Beyond for about $30.

This produces a very creamy frothy milk - once you get the right arm action it is superb

Has anyone found a good chai tea latte maker? I know that Tassimo has the premade packets for theirs but they have Splenda in them which I do not do. ANYONE please let me know...I am desperate! Thank you!
