Whenever drinking Japanese greens from a guinomi (sake cup ... small), and an entire steep does not fit into the cup, I use this pitcher picked up for a buck or two (I actually got a few of them). Oddly, I only use this "fair cup" for Japanese greens. Intuitively?

It is great also for smelling the concentrated aroma steaming from the narrow opening. Of course can see the tea as well. And can swirl it around to mix up the bits of leaf.

It is clunky, cheap, low quality, and used thousands of times.

I had never used one of these for Japanese tea until this summer when I poured several infusions into it because I was planning on making iced sencha. It's surprising how different the color is compared to clay yunomi that don't have a white lining. I think one reason I never used it for Japanese tea before is that the Japanese yunomi are available in much larger sizes than most Chinese cups.

I love fair cups.

Just returned from 3 weeks in Malaysia, before I went I had 5 fair cups, I now own 15.

I love fair cups.

And I am still waiting for Petr Novak to make me a larger double wall footed pitcher with a nacre interior and a lid that I can use over a tealight when at the bottom of the garden far from my brewing station -

My intention, but after 3 weeks holiday and some jet lag I have returned with so many things that need photograsphing.

I was so preoccupied with packing in the 4 days before I left I returned to a house that needs serious tidying before I have room to start getting the camera ready. The PC keeps crashing and I have 1000 holiday snaps to upload to flickr. but one camera had the wrong date so I need to work out the real dates.

as well as the FairCups, I have a tea tray that needs showing, a new kettle, 2 new yixings, the start of my Pu Er collection after 4 years spent solely on oolong, and possibly something new in the line of tea pets - 8 small carved wooden sculptures of the Ba Xian - 8 Immortals
work again on Saturday, start tidying Sunday and photographing on Tuesday

Perhaps it will be fired with the pot and cups set I asked him to make.

Hojo's advice on brewing Oolong

"It is more advisable to use pitcher so as to even out the concentration of tea. Pouring tea directly into cup is not practical as usually small cup is used for oolong due to too high temperature.
