Best tea growing regions in Japan?

I was wondering what your favorite tea regions in japan are. Which region produces the best tea...both in quality and in flavor?

Kagoshima is numero uno for me!

Then Uji, Yame, Shizuoka in no particular order.

I don't care about the region teas are coming from as long the tea is good.

Most of the best teas I have had come from Uji but not exclusively.

Uji teas have been the best I've had, especially Gyokuro, but, some good sencha from Kagoshima I've also had. I think a lot has to do with who is the tea maker.

I could almost agree with this ... it just so happens that the teas I tend to like most come from Kagoshima. I think this has more to do with the more southern varietals like Yutaka Midori which do not appear to grow well north of Kyushu.

I went through a phase of wanting to try by region, this was interesting and educational. However I did not always like what I learned.

Interesting question ... I have never searched specifically.

Uji seems to have the edge in Gyokuro, but I also like their traditional approach to sencha.

Uji for matcha and gyokuro for sure. Other areas are starting to make –or maybe just starting to export– good sencha, but I still prefer Uji sencha and its the best. Second place is a tie between Honyama and Shizuoka. I think the Kagoshima lovers are mostly fukamushi lovers, while Uji is still the king of asamushi.

Can't disagree. I was just given some fukamushi superior from Hibiki-an which I think is terrible, a gloppy, bitter, mess of a tea.

... well the Fuka Superior is low grade, cheap fuka.

This was one of my first fuka and back then it was not bad at all, though this might have been a relativity thing.

But I tend to agree, Uji has uber good asa.
