I bought a small gaiwan from the Tea Gallery which I've been using for puerh. Now that I've learned to handle a gaiwan I'd like to expand my collection. My main tea preference at this point is green, so I'm thinking that a 4 ounce gaiwan would be just right. I'd buy the large gaiwan from the Tea Gallery, but at $35 I feel that it's a bit steep.
Any advice on a well made 4 ounce gaiwan for $20 to $25? I prefer not to order from China at this point - my last purchase from China took such a long time to arrive that I gave it up for lost.
Edit: I'm considering this one: http://www.teatrekker.com/tea_equip/tea ... wh_150.htm
Does anyone here own it? or have thoughts pro or con based on the photo?

Re: Second Gaiwan
5 ounces is getting a bit big, handling wise. The bigger they get, the harder they are for me to handle. But then again, I always seem to reach for 3-4 ouncers, or even smaller. But maybe this is no coincidence.
Re: Second Gaiwan
I have no experience w/ the gaiwan that you've linked. I'm in a similar situation as Chip, that though I own a few 5oz+ gaiwans, I never use them as I've found them to be too big.
I do own this lotus gaiwan here, and I really do enjoy it. It's ~4oz, handles well, looks nice, is only $17, and the vendor is in the US.

I got a 7oz gaiwan that I love. Very easy to handle. As easy as all my others.....what technique are you guys using? I dont use a saucer, I use the 3 finger technique.....I'd imagine anything over a 5oz with a saucer would probably be tricky.

Yeah, the saucer method does not work well for anything larger ... for me.Zensuji wrote:I got a 7oz gaiwan that I love. Very easy to handle. I will also use the 3 finger method. This works much better for larger, but it is still more challenging and awkward for me for 5 ounces. But it is much better than the saucer method.
I usually just reach for a pot if I want 5 ounces or more.
Re: Second Gaiwan
Ditto. I use dedicated (larger) pots for various teas.Chip wrote:I usually just reach for a pot if I want 5 ounces or more.

This would be an option around 3.5 ounces: http://www.sensationalteas.com/teaporcelainpottery.html

Think it's all a matter of personal preference. I have a few about that size, a little smaller, and I like them though each took some getting used to. Probably wouldn't go bigger than that though as I tend to pour using the saucer and any bigger/taller(that one looks like it might be a little 'tall' for me, personally) and I can't pick it up right.
