Whoa! It's been about a bajillion years since I was last on TeaChat, let alone posted. It looks like most of you haven't been on either. So I guess I'm writing into the ether. Meh.
I'm just posting today because I'm really excited about drinking old sencha. Which seems ridiculous given how crazy we were about the freshest-of-the-fresh a couple years ago. I didn't really understand that--sencha's not my boat. So I still had a ton of it from back in 2008. Pretty good stuff, too...it made me feel guilty to not drink it. I was cleaning out my tea cabinet this past week and paused just before I tossed the senchas. Instead, I decided to just put them all together in a big jar, mix it up, and hope for the best.
It is beautiful--I forgot senchas were so green--and it is delicious. Lots of hazelnut notes with a strong supporting cast of marine and grass. And it's a forgiving brew--I can actually forget about it for a couple minutes and its still drinkable. I can't believe that it's so good. I am also wondering where in the heck the old Mary went: the one who measured everything out to the nearest 10th of a degree or gram, the one who pre-warmed pots, the one that kept copious tasting notes.
Could it be that I've finally cast aside my tea snobbery?! The horrors!
I blame grad school. It's like being in the army, but with less physical exercise. I'd say death, but some of my friends are defending their orals this week...and I'm worried for them. They're not looking so good.

I think there's quite a few of us still around, though itd seems to have sorta died. Maybe since the forum's been quite pleasant, no idiots to moan about lately.
