Hey all,
So I've been trying to research my first real informed pu erh purchase. I remember the first time I had real pu erh was at a friends house and I remember I could sense a dark clay earthy musk. I was blown away. Since then, mine all seem to be much more thin, citric and watery but I've really just been buying at random hoping to get a feel for what's out there. I try and brew them overly dark but it only makes it worse.
What am I looking for? I've looked for this description in all the guides to pu-erh but none mention any flavors like this. You can't talk below my level of expertise since I have none.
Re: PuNoob looking for musk.
As far as I know, this is your best bet. I've had it, and it's definitely musky, tho' I don't know if its the sort you want.

Re: PuNoob looking for musk.
If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say the first puerh you tried was either cooked (shu) or aged raw (sheng), and you have since been trying young sheng.
If you are looking for "dark and earthy" then shu is what you seek. This thread has a few recommendations.
