Your favorite green tea of 2010

by bryan_drinks_tea » Dec 13th, '10, 19:48

I know that 2010 isn't quite over yet, but I just figured it would make a good topic. What's your favorite green tea of 2010? mine is Yuuki Cha's Kagoshima Sencha Magokoro. It had plenty of fresh fruit notes with, IMHO, an excellent balance of tartness and sweetness. The colour and aroma were very nice as well.

I still have a few Green teas to try this year, but Right now it is a toss up between:

O-cha's Kirameki which is the Shincha version of Ujibashi San no Ma.

And a rather recent tea that I have been rather smitten with is the Limited Edition 7132 Asamushi Sencha from O-cha.

Closely related topic, though more Japanese tea oriented ... http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14158

Last count, I was at 47 different greens this year, 46 were Japanese  ... so far. Trying to pick 1 favorite ... well ... pretty hard to do. I would likely have close to 15 favorites. I will have to think about this. So many good ones ...

Suzhou BiloChun from Tea Gallery blew me away, was my top green.

A close second was Zencha's Ultimate sencha: 4grams in 40ml at room temp for 4 minutes. Wow!

Question: I have never had Japanese teas at home. Can they be brewed Chinese style, i.e. porcelain pot?

Cheers.

I suppose so. Some TCers brew Japanese greens in a gaiwan.

If you're trying to decide if you like Japanese greens then go ahead. If you try any fukamushi then you should use some kind of infuser basket.

You'll probably need to strain the tea. Chinese teas are generally whole-leaf, so the holes in the spout would be larger than the holes in the spout of a Japanese pot.

My favorite green tea this year is a very broad Chinese greens. I started out drinking chinese greens but I didn't brew them properly so I didn't appreciate and enjoy them completely. Now that I've got a collection of gaiwans and tasting cups (thanks Teachat), as well as a thermometer and a scale, I'm really enjoying them. Some favorites - Tai Ping Hou Kui, An Ji Bai Cha and my perennial favorite, Jasmine Pearls. Still in the closet and unopened, some Lung Ching samples from Jing.

Many, but two that stand out at the moment: Lu An Gua Pian from JTS and Kumamoto Sencha Yabe Supreme from Yuuki-Cha.

I have two clear favourites; the one mentioned above, and Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui from TeaSpring.

Ohhh, I like this answer the bestest! Unfortunately had no Cha wang TPHK in 2010!

Still thinking about personal faves for 2010 ... so many awesome greens this year, and think back folks ... there was a time that it appeared 2010 was going to be a doomed harvest.
