Please help identify the name of the tea

by eugene_b » Dec 26th, '10, 13:31

My local vendor sells it under this name: Green Sprout from Golden Mountain (that's the literal translation from my language to english). I tried googling and was not able to find anything so I guess some essential part of the name was lost in the translation chain: chinese=>my language=>english :)

Also that's almost 100% a chinese tea because they specialize in this stuff and make exceptions for Taiwanese oolongs only. The tea has a very rich taste and aroma. The brewed tea is very very slightly greenish in color, almost colorless. Below is the photo of the leaves. If that helps, I can also make a photo of teapot when brewing the tea and the leaves after the tea is brewed. Do you by chance know the name of the tea? Either english (e.g. Dragon Well) or chinese=>english (e.g. Long Jing) name will do. Thanks!

I'm not 100% on this, but I think this is actually zhu ye qing - otherwise known as green bamboo leaf. take a look at it on dragon tea house (under green tea) and maybe you'll find it. I hope it at least helps!

Thanks for the guess however it's definitely not bamboo because this same vendor sells bamboo separately and it is quite different. The taste is different and the leaves are very different. This tea in question has quite unique look, of course I haven't checked all green teas out there but I've never seen green tea with those white things on the leaves.

Could be as Bryan says. There are a bunch of Chinese greens that look quite like this. Zhu Ye Qing is among the best of this style.

Try glass brewing this, the ZYQ I have had is always an exceptional dancer!

Well, it doesn't really dance much. At least dragon well and bamboo outperform it greatly. Also I've made some more photos. The first photo is comparison of tea in question (on the left) and bamboo (on the right). The photo is a bit darkish, the leaves are greener in reality. The other two photos show this unknown tea when it is being brewed.

Hmmm, might not be ZYQ after all ... like I said, there are a bunch of teas of this style.
