Cha Tansu
I've been looking for some way to organize my tea and accoutrements and started looking into getting a cha tansu. I did a search and noticed that no one has ever mentioned a tansu to organize and store their tea stuff. I'm tired of keeping my teas in closets, cupboards and cardboard. Does anyone have and use a cha tansu (or even another kind of tansu) for storing their tea? Tansu furniture is indeed very nice and practical, and prices vary from very modest to extravagant.

Have you checked http://www.rikyucha.com/index.php
I shy away from these types of things based upon the shipping alone. Sometimes improv is the name of the game.
But keeps us posted on your progress! Maybe you will start a new wave ...

I became very interested in cha tansu (or cha dansu) some time ago, but I have yet to see any available over the internet that I both like and can afford...

I have a Zelkova wood Japanese tea tansu purchased from a local dealer (here in LA), which I use for storing teapots / teaware, as well as some of my tea. I think I've posted pictures in the past. I'll try to post a picture when I get back home.grimbasement wrote:I've been looking for some way to organize my tea and accoutrements and started looking into getting a cha tansu. The one I have is fairly small; it doesn't hold a ton of tea, and the shelving isn't laid out perfectly, but it works reasonably well for displaying teapots and other teaware. The wood, while not super fragrant, does impart a slight odor into the teapots.

Re: Cha Tansu
I can see one of those freaking Japanese pots on top of the tansu. Chinese all the way, for sure.
By the way, most if the Yixing collection is in the huge scale, yuck!
Do I sound kind of jealous?
Nice collection anyway.

Re: Cha Tansu
Thanks all.
I realized I didn't show the storage inside (drawers and compartments), so I took a couple more:

It's a fairly small cabinet, so I have quite a bit of other tea that's stored in plastic bins in a closet and in the humidor pictured in 'show your pu'.
Not quite sure I understand what you are talking about here, but just FWIW, if you're talking about the kettle on top, that's a side handled Chaozhou kettle, not a Japanese teapot. Also, if you mean the pots' size, maybe hard to see the scale in the picture, but almost all of these pots are pretty small (40-150 ml).mayayo wrote:I can see one of those freaking Japanese pots on top of the tansu.
