Hi,
I am going to buy matcha but since I don't know whether I'll like it, I don't want to buy a matcha whisk. Did you have any luck replacing it with some common kitchen tool? I've been thinking of using a common kitchen whisk, what do you think about this?

A lot of members started with the kitchen whisk. I did as well, works ok.
Ultimately, the chasen really does enhance the overall experience.

You are welcome ... and virtually every one of these members ended up buying a chasen. Matcha is addicting!

i began with the common kitchen tools... and now i have the full equipment and tryed about 15 different matchas in 2 months...

While I am waiting for my order I've read through brewing methods and I am a bit confused. The site where I purchased says that I need to use 70ml of water per 1 teaspoon of matcha. Is it really so?
It's just I am used to drinking tea in 300-200 ml cups so 70ml is a bit too little for me
But then it turns out that I need to put 3-4+ teaspoons of matcha in order to get 200-300ml of tea? Is it not a bit too much, especially considering that the tea leaf is fully converted to tea?
Or is it normally consumed in small quantities, like 70ml, and I should avoid drinking too much without making a break?

I'm hardly an expert, but I've been using between 1/3 and 1/2 cup of water for my matcha (so, around 80 ml to 120 ml according to google) and about 3/4 tsp of matcha which is a pretty pleasant ratio for me. 1 tsp for less than 1/3 c water seems like it would be pretty strong. Also since matcha is a suspension not a solution, I think you're probably better off making a smaller amount multiple times than trying to make 200-300 ml at once, since you have to drink it quickly before it separates back out.

I've always used a metal fork in a cheap glass. I also don't use pricey matcha, so...I'm 'hood like that. When I get the money for better matcha ware, I'll make the purchase. Until then...

Uh....somehow I turned out to be not a fan of japanese teas. I've checked both matcha and gyokuro. They both have very interesting and original tastes but also they both have something in their tastes that I don't like. I guess I'll remain loyal to chinese greens ))

My advise, if you still have something of the japanese in your inventory, experiment a bit with temperature, brewtime and ratio.

Could also be the selections. I love Japanese greens including matcha and gyokuro. But there are selections I could not finish, there are good ones and bad ones just like in all types of tea. Hopefully you will continue to try, including what noahnoir suggested, but also try other selections based on recommendations found here versus eloquent descriptions offered by vendors.
