Tea Scoops?

by Bunny » Jan 21st, '11, 10:03

Does anyone reserve a special spoon or scoop for scooping out their tea? I've noticed some sites offer tea scoops to "guarantee the perfect amount, avoid contaminating the tea and prolong its freshness". Any thoughts?

I use the same spoon that I have for 12 years when I started drinking tea. It is a long handled iced tea spoon, silver, old, and not so pretty anymore. But it is like we are old buds!

I have nicer bamboo and sakura scoops, etc, but this is what I reach for several times a day, every day. Don't get me wrong, my point is, I use what I want to use as should everyone else ... not what some marketer says a person has to use.

"guarantee the perfect amount" ... My thoughts? That is pretty much BS. No matter what you use, you still have to get the amount right.

And what does a scoop have to do with freshness? :?: I guess so you don't put something with food particles in your tea? I guess whatever you use, you can dedicate it for this purpose.

I'm pretty sure any spoon will do. I use a bamboo scoop that's basically a half cut out bamboo.

Now that is a nice scoop! (..adds to lengthy tea wish list :))

I have cheap plastic teaspoons at home and at work that I use. I think just using the same tool consistently helps.

I have some pretty ones from a fancy hardwood that I got from my chinatown tea shop. Inexpensive and pretty. If I ever get myself back into the garage, I'd like to make some more myself. Seems like a good bandsaw project to rough them out, and finish by hand....
