Pots, Pots and More POTS

by Kithikor » Jan 18th, '11, 18:34

After browsing MANY sites, I have seen SO many different pots that I am going nuts! Maybe I am tired, but are those glass pots any good? I would think that the heat loss would be huge.

Thanks in advance.

The heat loss isn't actually that huge. I've never had that problem with mine, at least. I like the glass pots.

That is good to hear. I had my eye on one from Adagio called IngenuiTEA, but was unsure.

I gave up on glass tea kettles for stovetop use after breaking 2 of them, but still love my little glass teapot. I had a series of inexpensive ones that met sad fates in the office, and decided the risk of someone being cut by shards (especially since I didn't have my own vacuum handy) was not worth it, but at home have gotten a lot of use out of a simple 6 oz glass pot with built-in filtering spout. Very nice. No concerns about rapid heat loss when brewing up puerh or oolong or green teas.

There´s nothing wrong with glass pots, I´ve been using them for years and even now mine gets quite a bit of use...it´s possible to brew almost anything in it with good results :)

The Ingenuitea is like MarshalN said, plastic and not glass.

I would recommend using a real glass teapot like this one if you want a fairly large pot for western style tea brewing

Yunnan Sourcing is a good vendor...and they have several other glass teapots but that one is probably the more useful design for western tea brewing.

Here's a really nice shui ping shape glass one from DTH. I dont have it but was thinking about it for having next to the computer.

They also do all four of them there. Going down to 100ml but the shape is nicest on this one.

I have one of these,

and I am mighty pleased. Being able to remove the filter is a plus to me, and apart from that it's a good pot. It has lasted for quite some time now. The only thing I've learnt thus far is that they won't survive a drop to wooden floors, as my last pot can testify to. But hey, not many pots survive that anyway.

I am not very keen of any metallic objects added to the brewing process of tea, especially green tea. Reason: Chinese 5E theory.

As another user stated Yunnan Sourcing stock quality glass pots. I use one one similar to the following one (200mL is quite sweet in terms of capacity):

And the price is even sweeter.

I have that pot too, it was my first pot because of the price :D I mostly use it for hongcha or other tea that I usually drink for the sake of drinking a hot beverage, or sometimes I'll use it for masala chai and tisanes; 200mL is too much for a focused or long session with a good tea. Right now I have a generic TGY in there which is helping me dispel a stuffy nose :D

I love my glass teapot. Their good for brewing about anything, fairly inexpensive and fun to watch the tea infuse. Just be careful not to break it. dragonteahouse and yunnansourcing have a great selection of glassware
