CNNP "8892"

by Milhouse » Jan 4th, '11, 20:38

My friend gave me a cake of CNNP 8892 last week but she didn't know anything about it and either did i so i figured maybe someone here knows more. My camera is broken at the moment so i couldn't take any pictures of it but found the same wrapper here http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=5189697593 the actual cake looks a bit darker and doesn't have the red ribbon but the neifei is the same. The neifei and description ticket are covered in stains.

Brewed 5g in 150ml Gaiwan

aroma- Chinese med/herb, nutty
flavor- Chinese med/herb, slightly bitter after 10th infusion
color- aged scotch
wet leaf- raw, copper, army green, light-dark brown. large broken/chopped, mushy, dried leather w/ a few berries.

Went about 10 rounds before i started getting a dry feeling in my throat. Overall i liked this tea but after searching i couldn't find much info about it other than it maybe being a mix of ripe and raw. The leaves looked like pictures of wet stored stuff on Cloud's website but no offensive flavors. Anyone know anything about this tea? Sorry for lack of photos.

looks like this http://www.cloudsteacollection.com/puerh01/A0068.jpg but also contains small light green raw leaves and large copper looking ones, both unfold.

well if my number readings are correct this should be a 1988 recipe pu-erh with tea leaf grade 9 leaves (a very very high quality by the way it's out of 10) and made by Menghai, thats where the 2 comes from. You may want to look up the 88 recpie and look at your options. Should be pretty easy from their :D I couldn't look at the photo of the wrapper you put up *stupid computer* but hoped I helped.

Thanks for the reply. I'm already familiar with the whole recipe/factory numbers so Ive already searched for it and came up with a couple comments on teachat saying its a mix 70/30 and not made at Menghai Tea Factory.

Not much useful info after translation.

There's plenty of good tea out there so I'm not gonna try and buy another cake of this but i did want to at least find out more about it so i know what I'm drinking and can learn something from it.

um...

grade 9..or any grade for that matter, doesn't refer to quality, at least not anymore. it refers to leaf size. if it was to refer to quality like it used to, it would be lower quality leaf. smaller number generally means smaller leaf, and vice versa. despite all that mumbo jumbo..if you like it, then you like it...drink what you like, like what you drink.

This is cooked pu, if your cake looks more or less the same. Wet stored tea does not look like this. Is it what you had in mind?

I was never under the impression that this was wet stored raw since its definitely cooked but it also has a bunch of leaves that don't look like the normal shu Ive come across. Plenty of full green or reddish copper leaves that completely unfold and some really crunchy leaves that are intact yet stuck together. Nothing uniform about this cake so it made me a little curious to know more about it.
